Gas leak

I have a gas leak coming from my tank or line when the fuel tank is over half full. When it is under half full, it doesn't leak? Does anyone know what can cause this? It only leaks when the car is running.

Inspect the fuel pump. My guess is its either a fuel pump seal or the tank itself.

Thanks for responding. If it was the pump, wouldn't it leak all the time when the car is running? It is strange that it only leaks when the tank is over half full. What about vent lines? Aren't there return gas lines or something in the fuel delivery system? Also, if it was the tank, how come it doesn't leak when the car is not running?

Also, I am new to this forum. I see that your an expert. Are there any links about removing the whole rear end to inspect all the lines feeding into the tank? Would you just remove the whole rear end to fix gas lines and possible tank replacement? This link shows something like what I am talking about....

Or would you just try and lower the tank and then work underneath the car. I don't have a lift, so it is just jack stands etc.....

How would you tackle the job?

Thanks, Apis3

I am in no way an expert in anything automotive except for online searching my @$$ off. I only comment on what I know, but I appreciate the compliment. I just try to share the best I can & learn all I can.

Do note that a Civic tank is set up differently than that Accord, so make sure not to assume anything in this process.

What I would do is pull up the Civic repair manual from online and go through the proper way to remove the gas tank, including looking up old threads for any tips. Confirm the issue source before deciding to change parts. I say start by inspecting the fuel pump.

Thanks. I'll try and find the Civic repair manual online. Tried previously with difficulties. I have the Chilton Manuel, but it is bascially useless. I also search on this forum to no avail. Thanks again. Happy New Year!
