I had my s**t down to a gallon of gas and my gas light didn't come on. I have a 96 civic. So I don't know. Honestly though why does it matter? Just don't let it hit E.

I've had two 6th generation civics and both have had to be below the E for the Gas light to come on. the manual says it's supposed to come on when you are close to one gallon.

How about treating "E" as if it were the gas light? Just fill up your car when it hits it. What's the difference? You let it run down a gallon or 2 farther or just fill it then?

It's can be bad to let the gas run that low or all the way out. You run the risk of sucking up anything that may be hanging out at the bottom of the tank. Blown a couple fuel pumps in past vehicles from sucking stuff up when it got too low.

On my 97 I have driven it below the red line with no light on. The only way I get mine to go on is to have the engine off and parked on a uphill slope with less than 1/4 tank. then give the car 5 min to start to see the gas light faintly turn on. But as soon as the cars on, it will turn off... If that makes sense.

i put gas in mine when it gets to a quater im gonna fill it up either way and go the same amount of miles so whats the difference. There is no reason to run it that close to E unless nessary, but it shouldnt be a constant thing just fill it up.
