hey y'all. i'm buyin a gauge face cover from EK9, and while i have it out, i'm gonna do the v-tec activation light for my sohc on the gauge face. the only thing is, i can't find how to get the gauge cluster out. i know sombody knows how, with everyone's talk about puttin in ctr and itr gauge clusters and indiglows. i just can't find any write ups, and every time i try to take stuff apart, i always miss a screw or two. i tried looking up a hosted chiltons, but i can't find one that works for my gen. mine's a 98 ex coupe.

any help is appreciated

*yank* *yank* -snap- "Oops."

I put the reverse-glow gauges in back in december sometime, but I was either too lazy or couldn't afford to go get a repair manual at the time. So the gauges are in, they just don't light up. I'll get around to finishing the job sooner or later.

if you follow the link UnitZero posted at the top, you can get the gauge cluster out. also in the write up in the link, it tells you how to remove the gauge faces. to install the gauge covers you have, you just take out the screws on the face, slide your covers CAREFULLY over the needles, and then reverse everything. to wire them up, i just tapped the two wires from the gauge face covers into the two wires that go to the light on the top ove the gauge unit... look at the attached pic. then i mounted the new dimmer switch near the coin tray.

RED wire goes to RED AND BLACK on your dimmer, BLACK goes to BLACK. if you have a silver? if you have a third wire you wire it to the ALL RED wire and thats it

your dimmer switch should just slide out (push it from the inside out once you have your cluster out)

ps dont cut too close to the plug...and the wires are gonna be a b***h to strip cuz you've got such little space to work in?!

hope that helps...pm me or email me if you dont get it

Finally got them wired in after having them installed for 4 months. Now I don't know if this was exactly smart or not, but it works. Whatever.

Now I took out the gauge cluster again and found the wire leading to the stock bulb that lights the whole cluster. I cut those wires and used butt connectors to connect them right to the two wires connecting to the gauge power box dealie. Ta-da! Instant illumination. Turns on when you twist the light knob thingie, dims when you turn the gauge dimmer or the gauge dimmer from the car itself. Like I said, might not have been the smartest thing to do...
