General Question

I've got a 7th generation Civic it's a 2002 lx coupe. I know it has potential to be amazing but i'm hungup on the fact that unfortunatley it's an automatic rahter than 5 speed. So i'm wandering if i should still work on it or if it's not really worth working on. One of my friends told me that there's not as much mods you can do to an automatic, but i still want to work on my car. I've thought that eventually i could change the transmission to a manual or if it would be too much work. I've got 140,000 miles on it so it's still going to last for awhile but it's not new by any means. I was just hoping to get some feedback and ideas as to what i should do.

Just do a 5-speed swap.

I'd look to see if you can trade it in for a manual. A hell of a lot less hassle. For some reason, shops HATE doing auto to manual on our generation. They swear it's a b***h of a job and they want to charge insane amounts to get it done. You CAN still mod an auto, but if you want any significant hp gains, you're going to need to at least strengthen the transmission so that it can handle it. If you decide not to trade it in / auto to manual conversion, you can always work on suspension.

You may be able to trade it as people that just use them as commuter cars and what not and arent actually into them usally seem to drive autos.

If you like speed and want to really invest in high performance parts, manual is a must, trade for a new manual car. Or if you want to keep it cuz you love it, work on the exterior of the car and suspension, make it look nice and keep everything stock or alter minor things like header and short ram. and thats all it becomes, a nice looking car that has great mileage.

Ok sounds good thanks for the ideas i'd love to hear more if you guys think of anything else. About how much would it cost to swap to a manual? Would it be just as much to buy a new car? About how much does the suspension stuff cost?
