Getting Great MPG's

Plz dnt teez the SOHC
Hi, guys! My goal with this thread is to build a sort of database that we can share with others about MAX mpg's that people can expect of their engines or swaps that they are planning on doing. Some of this stuff may be common sense to some, but I know it will definitely help others. So I will begin.

Engine: D16Y8, No Power Steering, Completely stock no bolt-ons or anything, 2000 CX Hatch

1. I don't rev, not even a little bit, when taking off in first gear.

2. I match the rev as close to exact as possible before releasing the clutch (this may serve more for clutch preservation than anything else) in an upshift.

3. When slowing down, I do not downshift ever.

4. I try to see as far as i can for a traffic light, and go into neutral to let it cruise. I had to FORCE myself to be aware of this, because I wasn't one to do a lot of neutral cruising. I always slowed down mostly in gear and went to neutral about 100 ft. before stopping.

5. DO A LOT OF NEUTRAL DRIVING! Be aware of your driving situation at all times so you can cruise at neutral whenever possible. You can sometimes speed up and slow down while in neutral without ever having to touch the accelerator or brake.

6. I shift at 2 to 2.1 RPM's and cruise the expressway at 55-60 mph. This took a lot of practice for me to cultivate the patience for this lol.

7. I run without AC. This uses more gas than the drag caused by driving with windows down (at least in my car.)

MY RESULTS: 520 Miles on one full tank (I didn't go until running out, but I ran it pretty close for this one experiment. It's not a good idea to make a habit of this).
TANK: 11.9 Gal.

Hope you guys can try this out and post (honest) results. I'm kind of interested to see what's posted. As always, thanks for reading and posting!

I think my car is too slow to shift before 2500 rpm, it would take forever to get up to speed

I never down shift when slowing down, and I've been trying to neutral drive as much as possible. I'd like to fill up and drive my car out of gas just to see how many miles I get

I live in sunny florida, work on the beach... no way I could drive without AC lol

495 miles from full to car starts spudering. Windows down 98% of the time (no a/c) no neturial driving and I down shift to break. 80mph on the highway. I shift at 2.5-3,000 rpm. Bring it to 4,000rpm in first gear.on extreme situations. Stock d15 (non v-tev)

I drive like an idiot 90% of the time (not racing or doing ricer fly bys.... just fast), a/c blasting, mainly highway driving and I get about 370 miles per tank... so thats about 32 mpg average and I have i/h/e on my car and running on 17's. Oh and just a side note keep the tires properly inflated... I was running low pressure on all my tires and my gas mileage got shot to h*ll

Car - 2000 Honda Civic SI
Status - Daily Driven in town
Motor - B18b
Modifications : Turbo, exhaust, lowered.
Gas Mileage - 240 per tank, I fill up at 1/4 so that's usually 28-30mpg.

This is a great idea. But it also depends on the condition of the motor and relating parts, which you can't see from outside.

I have a 99 ex, stock d16y8 with 219k miles, intake, header, OEM Si muffler and get roughly 28-30mpg (90% city driving). I don't have A/C, I never give anyone rides, and I am gas happy (WOT at low speeds just to get up to speed faster).

I know I need new o2 sensors. The primary was changed about 30k ago and the secondary is the one since the car was bought...

not being rude but do NOT give estimates of your mileage its not hard to do and doesnt give inaccurate measurements like a few people are alluding to. and i get almost 40 mpg with a 50/50 highway/city split and i love going WOT and downshifting past cars. 96 dx manual. just took off A/C and P/S. cant wait to see what kinda miles i can get now. oh and not that it matters but im running no intake tube just the resonator and filter on the IM
