Ok, so I have this socketed ecu, the first chip I had can idled fine and ran fine but wouldn't go over 4000 rpms, this new chip I just got the car won't even start!

But the car runs perfect on the stock ecu and carrys out the rpms like it should. What the hell could be wrong??

well what software are you using? there are a bunch of factors when it comes to a chipped ecu. what engine is it for (i know d16)? what is the timing set for? there are so many factors. what software did you use and do you have a copy of the file on the chip? i can look it over for you and see what i find wrong if you like

ok get ur orignial chip u got with the ecu, and turn it around and see if that helps, ecu will throw a code and not be able to rev past 4k if the chip is reversed

Hit me up on AIM if you get a chance.

Is there a CEL with the new chip? Are you sure the actual chip circuit is working properly, meaning did any chip ever start the car and run it without the 4K rev limit?
