Alright, i have a few questions i need answered, all i want is answers/suggestions, dont tell me to not use it, dont tell me to turbo, you know what im saying.....;)

First off, 160k miles on my GSR, Zex dry kit, and a few concerns. im gonna be doing a compression and leak down test before i do this, granted all is well, i will continue on.

my 4dr needs a little extra umph at times and can get the whole kit for $150 from a buddy. its completely stock with 160k miles on it. im only going to run a 55 shot, but had a few concerns i wanted to clear up first. stock fuel system, plugs, and timing.....all will be sufficient? several people i know have done the same and had no problems, and i will NOT be using this often but i just want some other opinions. its my understanding that the zex box controlls fuel so i wont need a fpr? how about my stock clutch, it should hold up ok with such a small shot right? anything else i should look into or will just bolting on this kit be alright?

im not an idiot, i will be smart about it, however i dont know much about nitrous, never really looked too far into anything about it. this is a dd and i just want it to continue to be safe and reliable.

55 shot ZEX is pretty much just install, spray, & go. 55ZEX is rated really by FWHP instead of WHP like most systems so its not really even that big of a shot you think. 55 ZEX doesnt even call for retarding timing of ignition. Depending on miles & wear of the clutch, It might hold up great or it might slip. I always like using the ZEX sparks plugs with it tho. I also run them in my car now with boost... there damn good & affordable.

i have a 75 shot on a d16. i have zex plugs, and i have my timing retareded 2 degrees. you should be fine. make sure you have it hooked up to spray at wot, not push button, cause if you miss a gear or spin the tires too much, bye bye gsr

i guess im just concerned about my milage, not the shot so much......hopefully my compression and leak down tests result in positive information. then i will feel better about running a 55 or maybe 65, thats all i want. and i think zex only activates at wot, which is fine anyways.

can you leave the bottle open all the time?

ive never been a fan of the zex "smart box" ive had an NOS kit for abou 5 years now with no issues.. the NX wet kit is nice also.. bot a 50/55 shot should not really be an issue.. but you have to keep some s**t in mind.. ANYTHING could happen....a dry kit uses the stock fuel system to add additional fuel.. if you have not changed the fuel filter in a while id put a new one of them on... id only use higher octane gas... and although you dont NEED to change your plugs id probably get plugs that are one heat range colder.. ive been spraying my y8 for pretty much the whole 5 years.. 50-70 shot with no real issues.. but you have to keep in mind that with ANY serious power adder the motor just might not hold.. as sleeper brought up.. the clutch.. that was the first thing to go when i started to spray.. you will eventually need to uprade the clutch more than likely...

thanks oc. for the deal im getting on the zex kit i cant pass it up, and if it werent for that, id just forget nitrous all together. i just bought a new fuel filter yesterday as part of my "tune up" since i just got the car 4 days ago, and i already use premium gas since its recommended. if i dont go with zex plugs, is there any brand in particular i should look at? and one step colder is all i need to look for? and doesnt the zex box retard timing itself? tia

nice, i'm going to get the zex and a zx10 w/ my latest decision, not by the meet though (damnint) as far as the actiavation switch go grab yourself the msd window switch and get the pills that you want to spray through (thats what i'm gonna do) so you know its not gonna go past a certain point, i do believe i'm gonna go w/ the wet kit though (maybe not needed by why not its only few bucks more) and  $150 can you get two of them lol

i just use NGK one step colder and the performance is flawless.. the zex plugs are nice because they have multiple AND shorter grounds.. but are not really needed in my experience.. .. the ONLY advice i give is be sure yo can afford to pick up the pieces if it goes.. nitrous, turbo, any power is cool.. as long as you can afford the down time if you break something..

the msd one?? pretty much it works like this, you put in this chip for say 4400 rpms for start and 7800 rpms for finish, and it picks up the signal from distributor and turns it on at 4400 and off at 7800, no you don't need it, but it makes it less worrysome than it being on the entire time your into the throttle, and i believe the dry kit taps to the TPS so it will come on at WOT

no.. it monitors bottle preasure.. and monitors the throttle signal... on an NOS kit (for example) there is a fuel preasure safety switch and a mechanical switch on the throttle body) this is one of the reasons i dont like the zex kit.. anyone with nitrous experience will tell you that bottle preasure can surge for various reasons.. and it is my thought that adjusting fuel based on the variable on nitrous preasure is not really the best move.. i believe this because i think that there are better ways to protect against detonation..the fuel preasure safety switch for example is a mechanical switch mounted on the fuel supply that will NOT allow nitrous to engage unless there is enough fuel present.. it is adjusting based on fuel preasure (which can also spike expecially when you are dealing with high fuel preasure and a stock pump).. but the difference is the fuel preasure one is STOPPING nitrous based on real time fuel supply pretty much AT the fuel rail....and is OFF when fuel preasure is too low.. the zex kit just tried to adjust fuel based on nitrous preasure.. i mean SURE plenty of people use BOTH kits all the time... and have hardly any issues with either.. i just personally dont find the zex kit to use the best method... ;)

as long as you can afford to pick up the pieces (if something goes wrong).. its a GREAT option.. by far best bang for the buck for extra power when wanted....
