GTI Turbo on civic?

Ok. So i have a mechanic buddy that says he can put a Jetta GTI turbo on my d15b. He says it would be really inexpensive and it wouldnt take much modification at all. Slight fitting and welding to a stock header would be the only thing necessary.

To be honest, Im skeptical. He said it would cost me around $300.

What do you guys think? Have you ever heard of this or seen it done? Can anyone testify that this could legitimately work, and work well?

Thanks,
Jake

$300 seems dirt cheap, do you trust this "buddy"?

to somoene who knows what they're doing I'm sure a GTI turbo is possible, but you will need more than just welding it to your header....

Yeah. Its actually two guys, and yes, I think they are pretty trustworthy. One has built numerous turboed cars including a 10 second eclipse. He estimated 300-400 depending on the cost of the turbo. The one actually still has the eclipse motor and turbo and said he wants to buy my civic and find a way to drop the eclipse motor in it. lol. That would be crazy but Im sure he could do it.

I just need my car too much at this point. lol

GTI''s are 2.0 (newer ones) and i wouldnt put it on a stock manifold.. but search for home made turbo and see what u come up with..

300 is waaaay cheap for a turbo set up.
This is what I have been finding out. Its around 250 for the actual gti turbo. There are two main models K03 and K04.

The 03 is the 1.8 liter and 04 came on the 2.0 like you were saying Eso.

That doesnt iclude the intercooler, BOV, Piping and all the other necessities.

I was looking on Ebay...Oh No... lol
And I have come across a couple kits that come with just about everything you need Stainless, no al, for around 800. Im not looking to make my Ej8 a drag car....yet. (ill wait til i have my STI or Evo as a DD when Im out of school before I build the Ej8 :D) I just wanna turbo it for 1. Fun speed 2. Uniqueness 3. The experience and Know-how of how to install and how a turbo works. I love Mechanics but was never in an environment where I was taught. So Im taking it upon myself, with the help of you guys to learn. lol

Basically. What do you think of Ebay Turbo kits :?: Horrible? or Will do the job on 8lbs of boost?

don't forget a boost controller and a really good tune (add $200-$300) no need to ruin a perfectly good engine. i mean ebay stuff is cheap but if all you need is piping and an intercooler you should be ok. hope it works out.

LOL thats how it starts.. ohh only a few pounds.. then once you get bored after spending all that $$, you'll want more. Boost is like crack.. it will leave you penniless and keep you wanting more..

If your going to do it, do it right the 1st time.. >>> www.go-autoworks.com

I understand lol. I hope to join your ranks as a boost-whore. Ill try to do it right and tight the first time. Im reading every thread on HMT as we type. I have looked at go-autoworks. It's good stuff from what i have seen. =)

BTW The only place with a dyno around here cost like 1300 for a tune :''''( I thought that was terrible lol

I will I will. Thats fantastic news.

I am asking my parents to help me financially with this for my B day in like 3 weeks. =)

Even if they just buy me the garret turbo. I can comfortably put out the cash for the intercooler, piping, BOV and injectors....

Im not going to be able to sleep tonight thinking about all this stuff. :/ lol

It happens alot. Which is why I need stuff to do to my car. It will give me something to do when I cant sleep =)

Jake, Greg at Go-Autoworks is probably one of the most reputable companies around. Great customer service and products as well. Where did you get a quote of $1300 for a tune? There are a few places around that will do it for a lot cheaper.
