haunted volume knob??

i still have the stock radio in my 96 civic. plan on replacing soon, but it's not high on my priority list right now. the volume knob has a mind of its own. you might have to turn it right one time to turn it up and maybe left the next. then once you turn it up, it may not turn back down. somtimes it just turns down all the way and then beeps. is this a volume control problem that can be cured with a cleaning of the innards of the knob or is the radio just screwed? thanks

contacts are worn out on the knob mostt likely.. this used to happen to pioneer / kenwood units for home and car. a real pain in the ass.

I have an EM1 radio that does that, it's a grounding issue. I don't think there is really a way to fix it.

i was afraid of that. radios aren't that expensive, just didn't want to fool with it right now. thanks

I have the exact same problem in my 97 LX Manual. I was going to ask my mechanic when I bring it in next, but then I joined the forum!

If anyone does figure out how to fix, please share! It's not majorly important but it can be a major PITA.
