Head unit mounting

Ok, I've been looking into getting a CD player to replace my stock radio. Unfortunately there aren't any car audio shops in my general area that can help me out here. I want to install a Sony head unit into my cassette deck. I'd rather leave my interior as stock as possible. I figure if I install it in the cassette deck slot that it won't be as noticable. I live on campus so I'd rather not have my car broken into. Has anyone here tried installing a cd head unit into the cassette bay instead of the standard dash location? I'm drivin a 96 coupe.

Oh yeah, I tried asking Crutchfield tech support, but all they could tell me was "It'll fit in the dash." after I told them 3 times I didn't want it in the dash.

you could install the HD into the pocket next to your cupholders(since you have a 96-98 civic) and run the wires that way.

It will fit, you will need a t harness if you have stock keyless entry, or the specific harness to retain your domelight

Well, I don't mind my dome light not working, good to see it's possible though. I'll try and find some good audio shops in Detroit that can do this.

It's EZ. Read over the DIY's and ask questions here. There are plenty of people that have done it.

If you buy the HU from Crutchfield they'll give you directions and the proper harness. They will also tell you which wires to splice so your dome light will work.

BTW, that's my DIY to undo your lower center console. :thumbs up:. LMK if you have any questions.

Thanks for the help guys. It'll be a while before I have the spare cash to do it. I will definitely give it a shot.
