Headlights, Dashboard Dimming in and out

Alright, the problem first arose when I was driving along, when the check engine light came on, the speedometer starting going all over the place, the dashboard lights were dimming and getting brighter, and the engine was dropping almost as if it was downshifting or something, to the point where I couldnt maintain a speed over 20 mph. I brought it to the mechanic and he said that the alternator was throwing off random voltages, and that the problem ultimately came from a bum speed sensor. I get the car back, and everything was going fine. The other day I started it up again and the check engine light was on again. From what I could tell, the engine wasn't dropping out like it had before, but the dashboard lights and the headlights were cutting in and out again, as well as the air coming into the car, was coming in with bursts. Can anyone help me?

You said the mechanic said it was the alternator/speed sensor. Did those get replace? If so, make sure all your grounds have good connections.

there is actually a service bulletin on the alternator. it requires you to check the voltage coming off the alternator and some other stuff to find out if the alternator is bad or if there is a loose connection somewhere. if you go to the dealership i think they can check it for free because it is a TSB [technical service bulletin].

i'm new here and a new honda owner also, but i've owned many other makes; all used at time of purchase, all in need of repair from time to time. i'd have to agree with the last post, referencing the alternator again. i have a ford explorer also, whose alternator went bad last year. your description matches mine, save for the fluxing of power. mine just went from working (lights, air, radio, etc) to nothing - while i drove home. most of what you reference requires power from the battery. if the alternator isn't charging that battery up accordingly, then said parts will start to fail/cease to work properly. again, i only have my explorer to reference. i replaced my alternator with a refurb and it went bad again after a few months. i replaced it a second time with another refurb but also replaced my battery cables running to and from. haven't had a problem since. i don't know anything about sensors/alternators as it pertains to hondas (yet), but i would have to suggest checking your alternator again and maybe even the cables running from it to the battery; or at least the connections at the battery.
