this weekend i changed my atf, the honda way:cool: i still couldn't get the &^% oil filter off the block, tho:x...start my car this morning and it's idling at 2k! it settles down to 1500..then 1000 in drive...i was trying to get to the oil filter from the top of the engine...could i have dislodged something?? the car has a honda replacement distributor with 35k on it..usually rock solid idle...recently a couple hiccups, when idling..seems coinidental that it was running fine, then i mees with the filter and....mayb e it's just time for something else to go...the car has 195k on it=)

Wow. #1 organize what you are saying, its hard to understand. #2 from what you said, you tried to change your tranny fluid by taking your oil filter off. Give us the model and engine and we can help you more easily.

it's a 96 civic ex coupe..with auto trans..after i changed the atf...i thought i'd climb under the car and get to the engine oil filter..i can't stay under there for long because i get vertigo....so i tried to work it from the top..no go...so that brings us to this morning and the aforementioned high idle situation....on the back of the engine, under the intake, would ther be any vac lines i could have dislodged? i didn't see any..i diconnected the battery to reset the computer...seems a little better, but high still...any thoughts??

So you were changing the atf and the oil?

From the top its almost impossible to get to the oil filter because of the intake. Is the problem that the filter is too tight or is it just hard for you to get to from the bottom? Have you tried a filter wrench?

As far as the idle, I would check all the wire loom around the intake for any damage/loose connectors. Hondas will idle high at a cold start at about 1000-1500, then it will drop slowly as it warms up.
