HELP: 96 ek hatch (dash lights dont work!!)

ok guys, i recently got this honda and im not very familiar with it just yet. it has some weird issues, like all the dash lights/shifter column light doesnt work. the cluster back ground light doesnt work either but the turn signal arrows and trouble light work. this is such a weird problem.

i tried checking the 7.5 amp mini fuse for the instrusment lights and replacing it. no luck.

theres a "wired" after market switch (its a mess) that i know isnt stock. i flipped it and it didnt do anything. previous owner said a guy before him had some underdash lights..LOL so he could have messed up a couple wires that arent suppose to be connected. living in a apartment with no garage in this weather blows. hopefully this weekend would be a little better.

any advice? or stuff to look out for? let me know. info would help alot. thanks in advance

my dash lights wouldnt work but my turn signals and all would, it turned out to be the actual dimmer switch

check the fuses,
the wiring sometimes in these hacked up wires get pulled apart
i know a car i recently got was cut up all over the place

ohh ok.. ill check the dimmer switch and see whats up. i will try and understand why he needed to splice wires into the harness by the driverside door and correct and reconnect the wires. mann, people shouldnt mess with wiring if they dont understand it specially for underglow ishhh.. hehe..


and oh! btw, when i turn the headlight switch to "park" light. the radio light turns on and so as the auto trans position light on the gauge cluster. but when its on the headlight "on" and "off" position. both wont be lit. weeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiirrrrrddddddd! Lmaonade. LOL



any other posibilities?

geez it took me about 2 weeks to fix the wiring in my car, it was my dash lights then my headlights then my radio wouldnt work and found out he cut the harness and it came apart

check for any areas where he cut and reconnected the wires, i didnt know mine came apart till i took off all the electrical tape and connectors

my aunt just had the same problem in her corolla . when i had the switch turned on to headlight mode nothing worked except the radio. no parking lights or dash lights. in parking light mode everything worked expect the radio and the headlights.. really wiierd. i doubt its the same but but turns out that the main wire that controls all the lights and s**t was cut and just twisted together and taped up. it was under the steering wheel and was a green wire. i would find out which one is your main "light wire" and check for a short. because the way you explain your wires sounds like you got a short somewheree. it would be good to check your dimmer as well.

ok.. i took down the steering column under panel to see whats up with all the lose wires.. look what i found... i highly doubt this are all stock components.. jeez! what a mess..=( im currently clueless right now. i dont even know what those little black boxes are for and so as the huge "valet" box.

i wana take them out but it seems like he cut the dash harness to splice these crap in.. i wish i knew which wires to reconnect so i can clean up this mess.
