My cousin is looking to buy a Civic, Accord, Integra, or a Prelude. He said he was looking at around the year mine is(1995). Could someone tell me the normal things that go wrong with these cars? I didn't know where else to put it, so I put it here since my Civic's a 5th Gen and he wants something either a 5th or 6th gen. Also, what to watch out for modification wise. Like what to see if they have on it or not. If there's a better place for this, I'm sorry. Please move to a more appropriate section.

Kind of a open ended question....It all depends how it was taken care of. How it was driven....etc etc...As far as mod to the car and what to look for?

*Im not a Mechanic*
Common first mods:

Intake
Exhaust
Rims
Body styling
Sometimes turbos
depending on what make and model, some will have motor swaps.
Also camshafts and/or gear

Typically if it has any mods on it, chances are it was beat sometimes if not all the time.

Look for smoking at idle from exhaust tip
look for smoking when accelerating upto wide open throttle
White smoke typically means head gasket
Blue to black typically rings
Listen for clicking from the wheel areas. Bad axles will click and pop when pulling off from stop turning or not.
Knocking in the engine typically mean your rods
Keep an eye on the idle. if it stays at 1k...you're ok. If it raises then goes down none stop...Your idler valve is bad. Or maybe the Idle if very high above 1k.

Just some things to start off with. Im sure some others may have more or more in depth info.

Some guy had that car, modded it, and beat it to death. Unless you want a bad car to fix up, look some more.

he said he doesn't care what it looks like as long as it doesnt have any major mechanical problems

how do u know he beat it up. the only reason he's selling it is because he lost his license and it isnt insured.

you can tell just by the mods.
1. He probably lost his licence due to, too many tickets.
2. His insurance is probably too high to pay for it anymore due to #1.

from recent findings in my state, i found out most cars that had those type of mods, were beat to death,

I know for a fact Nebraska is filled with ricers. I looked at cars for about a half of a year and looked at mostly the majority of them in person, they were all about to fall apart when they had those mods. They all rode bad and the engine didn't sound good. But as you said, it could just be Nebraska :what:

How to tell a ricer:

test pipe back exhaust
short throw shifter
lowered on skunk 2 springs
short ram intake
gauges (2 need to be hooked up)
brand new stage 1 clutch still needs to be broken in
