I got really bored and found instructions to install a Vtec light on your car and thought "o boy!" so after spending all afternoon tryin to install the damn thing with a friend (and feeling pretty stupid cause the install time was 30 minutes) we got it all wired up. After firing my baby up and hittin Vtec i was amazed at the....dead LED in my gauges....

i followed the instructions i got off of Hazone, used the exact parts (used the part numbers). I found 2 wires that were Green/Yellow stripe, tried um both....and nothing.

The only things i can think of...

I dropped the LED before puttin it in. do they break easy?

Wiring i have sucks...

Resistor has to be put in in a certain direction ??

Vtec is broken... (god i hope not)

Tapping the wrong wire (found pictures, seems to be exact one)

Grounding is bad location..

This is a picture of the Positive Led Wire (Red) connection with the supposed Vtec wire (Green/Yellow)

This is a picture of my grounding wire. Its stripped to the wire and wrapped around the bolt that supports the glove box.

The wire i used.

The LED wired in with the resistor.

Please give me tips and suggestions on what could be wrong. It could be something stupid and obvious for all i know, but hell im new to this car thing.

i cant tell what your grounding to in the pic, but I would try a few places just to be safe. Also Resistors dont have polarity, so you are safe there. the wire is correct. Also make sure the tap is going through the insulation.

good luck

The thing im grounding it too is the big metal thing that the glovebox is bolted too. you can see it if you look under your glovebox. also, was do you mean by make sure my tap is going threw the insulation.....wat is my tap...and wat is insulation....lol

So you guys dont think the LED broke when i dropped it?

tap the wire at the vtec solonoid, there's only one wire... and it works everytime

the tap is the blue thing you used to tap the vtec wire and run the other wire off of. The insulation is the plastic stuff around the wire that keeps them seporate. for ground I have been using my metal cage ground my CD player, try that, or almost any unpainted metal surface. An led dosent break from dropping it, its a solid state diode.

maybe your just smarter than me, cause i used the writeup on here and the writeup on hazone...and no luck

Just seeing wtf i did wrong, i dont really like having wires hanging outa my car, so im not driving it, and i dont wanna just take the damn thing out.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, im gona try differnt grounding points and try retaping the wire!

Alright, this is pissing me off, i retaped the wire and checked about 3 differnt grounding points and its not lighting up....

The only thing i can think of is that there are 2 wires that match the discription Green/Yellow Stripe. The one im tapping is a Green with sorta a Piss Yellow, and there is one that is Green/ Bright Yellow Stripe, but it has these grey squares on it every few inchs and goes to a different location......any ideas?

BTW i have a 96 EX

Did you let your car warm up? Were you driving around, since vtec doesn't engage in neutral

What ecu are you using? I cna get you the pin location. if all else fails run the wire into the engine compartment, and tap it close to the solonoid <--sp?

Remember VTEC needs 3 things
Going faster than 5mph
Temp
Oil Pressure

So if your not driving, and your car isnt warmed up, its not going to hit

try sodering(sp?) and heat shrinking the wires for a better connection.

*slaps himself in the face* youve got to be kidding me....im so f**king stupid.

I did it a buncha times in nuetral, then thought maybe id have to be moving , so i tried it in the nieghborhood, but everytime the engine was still cold (felt bad about revving a cold motor).

Im going to warm my car up....i hope this works!

ok...im gona go insane...

i warmed the car up, went around the neighborhood and no light...AND my blinkers no longer work...im really f**king this up, but im more determined than ever.

The light is soldered to the resistor (on negative side (short end)) and then to the black wire, longer end of LED is soldered to the red wire.

My friend is coming over after school and we are just gona take all this s**t out, resolder new wires LED and resistor and try this again.

i pray that it will work

It works! I redid the whole LED, resistor, wire setup thing yestarday, tried tapping it to the VTEC solenoid under the hood and a few other wierd things and nothing worked. Thankfully my neighbor walked by (who is always workin on his old F150) and after looking at my setup told me my tap in wires were s**t. He gave me some that he had and we re-tapped it.....AND LIGHT!....this whole damn time, it was the f**king parts i was using.

The only thing i find odd about it , is my VTEC dosent engage till like 5800.
I dont think its just the light engaging late, cause i could can feel a bit more uuumph right about then.
