If it was misfiring, you want to make sure the block is still in good health.
Nice idea, D-series are under-rated. With the money spent on stock JDM B18C swaps (180hp i think) You can build a D-series turbo and have 300+ hp tuned .

The z6 is OBDI, which is a favorable type, you can tune it much more than the OBD2 y8. If I had the chance to choose between the two, i'd go with the z6, and get a modified ECU to tap out the potential

I should add, a mini-me swap will only pull out 20hp at best, which isn't too noticeable. Turbo it though, you may be well getting +80hp safely. On a stock block though, a turbo can only be safely tuned to 200hp before your internals are broken.

I don't know about all the different heads but many years ago I was given a non vtec head ( not sure if it was a y7). Compared to the z6 vtec head I was porting. The non vtec head had very small intake ports. They were the same in width, but the ceiling height was way different. For that reason alone if I was going to build for big power I would go with a vtec head. Keeping it a normal driver I don't know if I would mess with the hassle of a swap.

just put a y7 in and put a y8 intake manifold on. you are wasting money, you wont make quick d16

Single cams are a waste of money as it is, unless you build for boost. At that rate, you're gonna spend a lot of money.
Also, LOLOLOL at VTEC for performance.

first off, be ready for all the d series haters.... your going to have MANY! but i would go d16Y8 (or should i say i did go) a lot of people go z6 cuz of oil but i think y8 is better all around. as for vtec.... power gain is little but is something....

LOL, VTEC on a SOHC is almost unnoticeable. It's not bad to have but you really aren't going to see a huge difference at all. I did a Y8 head swap on a Y7. There was some power gain sure, but it was minimal. I would do it again but don't have that high of expectations for it.

Look you want to do my setup haha. Okay here is what you should do. You don't need to go to the z6. The difference between a z6 and y8 head is very minimal. Plenty of options for a y8 head when you decide to build it. With the y8 head you get vtec. It is also a simple swap to do on the y7 block. With the z6 you can read up few small problems you have to work around. If you need a y8 head i may have one for sale soon along with a clean throttle body and intake manifold for the y8. The y8 intake manifold is probably the best intake manifold stock for boost in the d series. As long as you don't want to do anything crazy like myself you could leave the head stock. If you are really interested let me know shoot me a pm.
