Hello Folks

I need some advice on the audio set up in my car. I drive a 99 EX Sedan in Toronto and am in the process of upgrading the audio system in my car. Here is what i have.

Head Unit: Sony Xplod 7705 - 52Wx4
Rear Speakers: Infinity 9603i 6x9s with 300w PMPO
Front Speakers: Stockies
Sub: No
Amp: No

After recently installing the infinities...i noticed that they distort after a certain volume level. A audio expert friend told me that the head unit amp is not powerful enough to get the right juice out of the infinites and i should consider installing an amp. I know from doing research on this forum that underpowering the speakers on a constant basis can destroy them so i am seriously considering an amp.

Which amp should i get? A 2 or 4 channel? Which brand? Wich brand is more proven with Honda Civics? The front stockies produce good sound but the guy told me that they will blow up if you put in an amp and dont upgrade them. Also...are amps designed for speakers or subs or both? I read somewhere that you have specific amps for both.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

THanks

The Infinity's definitely need more power and your friend was right about the amp and your fronts will blow in time from even just upgrading your deck. The amp will probably blow them almost immediately. I would recommend a component set for your front speakers if you plan to grab a four channel and amp all four speakers.

As far as different amps, some excell in full range/high reproduction and others do bass better. A more bass dedicated amp will have settings such as low pass and bass boost. As far as a brand, it's up to you, but I prefer Alpine amplifiers.

upgrade your door speakers, then get a 4 channel amp. u can look on www.crutchfield.com to see some decent ones. JL Audio makes some pretty badass quality amps.

i would get infinity components for the front, and a four channel to power your mids & highs. clean amp, though... infinitys like clean. ;)

Like she said, get components up front. They make a world of difference. Don't forget the sub while you are at it. I'm running a 5 channel amp, but you can do a lot of different configurations. Take your time and do research.

BTW, I run a Directed amp.

Hey guys...thanks so much for your advice. Well...i did some research and here is my situation.

I like the infinitiy 6000cs 6.5" component speakers for the front..they are retailing for around $100 on ebay and a four channel infinity 7540A amp is around $120. I was wondering whether it will be a good idea to get a 2 channel amp instead of 4 and link the rear speakers to it only...and then instead of components...i get regular but better speakers for the front and run them with the pre-amp of the head unit (is this possible...aah...im a newbie)

I dont know if this is a good combo but my only consideration was the price. Any suggestions.....
