Before anyone says "search" I have.
My problem is with my 03 suburban. The transfer case just started leaking a couple of days ago from the rear half. My question is, can I separate to put new rtv on it without parts and pieces falling out and landing me a bigger problem than I already have. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

03 is way too new for me to help you any...

our 89 had some problems just like that and we had to get a transmission guy to fix it...

You're going to have problems if you unbolt that fugger. It'll be easiest if you bring down the whole rear diff.

I wouldn't recommend doing that. I would drop the transfer case out, if it were me.

You don't have the rub through problem do you or are you just leaking? Those transfer cases are known to have rub through problems on the rear shaft where the spring clip inside that holds the pump comes loose and rubs until it pops a hole.

You would be able to tell if it is the problem I said above as you would have a hole in the rear shaft, usually on the bottom.

I would check to see if you aren't leaking out of the front or rear seals before you take it apart. Those (especially the rear) leak more commonly than where the case clam shells together.

You should have the NP246 transfer case if that helps your searching any. They were in the suburbans from 99-present.

The transfer case on the K5 that I had leaked out of both front and rear seals. The front one would spray back and cover the whole case, leaving me to think that it was leaking where it clams. I did a good cleaning and found out that the front/rear seals were the ones leaking. Cheap easy fixes and didn't have to drop the case.

Not sure if the they archive the show online or anything, but this makes me think of the show "Trucks" with that Stacy guy. That would be a lot of video research to do though to find out. That show still on air? if so write to them.. lol

Good thinking. ^^^^

I would 1 up you and recommend to go with xtreme 4x4 (on the same channel) for something like this though. They tear down and show how to beef up and/or rebuild transmissions and transfer cases all the time. I would venture to guess that they did a show on this exact transfer case as it is semi popular.

Yes, trucks! is still on the air. It is on Saturdays and Sundays on Spike Tv. Along with Muscle Car, HP TV, and Xtreme. It's called the Power Block. Trucks! has different hosts though, Stacy left a long time ago to do his own show, not certain on the name of his show or the channel though.
