hi guys i . iam new on this forum and i need some help . i have a 1998 civic ex 4 door stock engine and i want to know if my civic is vtec or not cause it does make some different noise from 5500rpm but im not sure . so plz help me out ... :D thks

ps: sry my englis suck... im from montreal

I think you have the D16y7 which is non-v.... But I could be wrong

Look at the block below the head to the left..it will be stamped there.

If it's the stock engine then you do not have vtec.

I know for a fact that a 1998 civic ex comes stock with a D16Y8. Which is indeed vtec. I don't think it being a 4 door or not has anything to do with it.

(got a buddy with a 98 ex)

I've seen sedans with y8ss

I stand corrected the ex does indeed come with the y8 witch is vtec.

For future reference..... Since some cars may come with swaps, you can always just check to see if it has a VTEC solenoid. It is a cylindrical looking object. For D16's, it's at the upper left hand corner of the valve cover (when looking at the engine from the front of the car).

But doesn't it make a difference if he's from Montreal....?

And that's a good point John, I totally didn't think about that. Haha

^ yes it does i believe, becuase there si is our ex.
So what is there ex compared to u.s trims.
That being said do what john was saying and just check for the vtec solenoid to be 100 percent sure.
