Help plzzz 95 honda civic Code 9!!!! :(

So my check engine light came on after putting in a new engine. The code is a 9. I have the Honda Haynes repair manual and did exactly what it said. To check the CYP sensor, disconnect the ignition harness connector at the distributor and probe terminals D and H with an ohmmeter . And compare it to spec. Spec is 300 to 750 it read 426 so its good. Then is said to check for continuity to ground on each terminal. And that continuity should NOT exist. I checked it and there was no continuity. So it passed both the tests and then it says if it passes both the test to take it to be diagnosed at the dealer. f**k THAT 'im not about to pay over a 100 just to have it diagnosed. So i'm begging all you guys who read this to help. If you ran in to this problem before whats the fix???? I need to get the car register and have it pass smog asap. So help is needed asap lol and Thanks ahead of time. Hopefully someone know what the problem is.

Did you swap in the same motor as the stock one?

You need to test both wires for (1) continuity to ground (short) or (2) lack of end-end continuity (open/broken wire). If both wires are fine, swap in a known good ECU.

Yea it was the same motor. And yea I checked both for continuity and there wasn't any. Read OL. And what's the second one u said? I don't get it.

How are you testing the wires for continuity to body ground? Some details would help. If there's no end-to-end continuity of the wires, then you already found your problem.

Well terminal 1/A had continuity. But I was confused because it on told me to check d/4 and H/8. Does that go for all terminals? Because I just realzed the the connect is grounded at the distributor. Or is it grounded at the ECU?

This is what i followed and every test passed. Hope this clears it up a little. It starts at step 39

1) My question is how exactly did YOU test for continuity to ground?

2) There's no test described in your manual for end-to-end continuity of the two CYP wires running between the distributor connector and ECU connector. So you don't know whether one of the wires is broken.

1) Connect to a known ground, the strut bolt with the negative probe and with the Red probe to terminals H and D. And there was no continuity. And i also did step 39 and it was within spec.

2)Should i just try to follow the wire back to the ECU as best i can and see its ripped or something? Or what do you think?

The two tests you did measured resistance of the CYL sensor (good) and tested for short in the distributor wires (none found). Neither test checked the CYL wires running between the distributor connector and the ECU connector (pins B11 and B12).

2)Should i just try to follow the wire back to the ECU as best i can and see its ripped or something? Or what do you think?
Next tests:

Reconnect the distributor connector and unplug ECU connector B. Check for continuity to body ground (a short) at B11 and B12 individually. Then measure the resistance between B11 and B12. Is the resistance almost identical to your original reading between D and H?

Got you. ill do these test tomorrow. And let you know how that goes. Thanks a lot man i really appreciate it

Okay so i check it at the ECU and the reading from b11 and b12 was the same as at D and H. I also checked Ground to both B11 and B12 and there was no continuity. Now i know the wiring and everything is good right? Im lost on what my next step should be. could it have to do with the timing? Because i just drop in the engine and didnt mess with anything and started it up. I also switched the distributor from my old engine and just put it in this one with our really checking to make sure it was going in right. Could that might have something to do with it?

Snaps, I might just have to buy one. I don't have one laying around

Thanks fit the info. Lets see what happens

cel code 9

Hi guys

I'm from Panama, new to this site. I had the same issue last week with my 92 Honda civic lx cel code 9. I went ahead and follow the instructions in the service manual to a point that said "repair a short to ground" I was thinking that this will be a big job to follow the cable until I can find the short. I didn't wanted to do that, so checking on the internet i found several people having the same issue doing repairs and changing parts with no luck, I red about people saying change the distributor, change the rotor. I was thinking about buying a used know good distributor, but i gave one more try following the service manual and found out this. the distributor is at one end and the computer at the other end, but nobody is verifying if the connector right next to the distributor is making a good connection specially the orange cable. the pin for the orange cable in the male connector wasn't making contact with female connector that was triggering the cel code 9, I hope this bring light to all the people having the same problem. please take the time to follow the step in the service manual if you have it before buying any parts
