hi...

i want to know, what is the difference between ported and unported subs. I heard that sealed subs are the best because they are used to create deep bass, but i heard also at the same time unported are good as well.

i dont really know so can u tell me the differences between ported and unported subs, and are sealed subs same as ported?

i just need help with the box.

thanks

I have a 10" kicker solo baric ive tried both, ported is way more effective for my sub atleast i dont know if its how it was designed or what,

Sealed boxes imo are junk, if you dynomat your trunk / hatch you shouldnt have to have a sealed box. you shouldnt rattle with the extra bass

If u want to conserve space, a sealed box is smaller and definitely appropriate for 1 sub. A ported box will probably be louder, but the bass will not be as tight or clean. Ported enclosures are more for people going for decibels, max output but sacrafice sound quality. If you listen to a variety of music Id go with a sealed box. I have a 12" Resonant Engineering w/a 600w Alpine and my box is sealed...just my 0.02.

If you go with a slotted box you will have the best of both worlds. Some sound quality and also some Spl. The Sealed is purely for Sq, Ported is purely for Spl, and slotted is for both. Just my .02... if you want I can try to get a video of all 3 boxes at work.

No, ported is not the same. A sealed bok will have NO openings anywhere, and a ported box will either have 2 circular tubes for air to come out or a slot style opening for air to come out. Basicaaly like people said ported is more for being loud. If you get a slot ported box that is close in size to your subs specs you can actually get great sound qaulity as well as loudness. In my experience you also hit lower.

True, ported enclosures are for hard hitting bass. You can get good bass quality from this type of enclosure though if you know what you are doing. The design of the port itself determines this. You can't just put a hole in a box and call it ported. There has to be some calculations to determine port diameter and length need for what bass frequencies you want. This website will explain everything you want to know and more about enclosures. http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxes.asp

Hmm, I'd really like a setup like that in my car. Does your box take up much space in the trunk?

A band pass box combines the best of both worlds. Half the box is sealed and half the box is ported. It may sound stupid but i got one for my 12 "Rockford Fosgate Punch 3 Sub and it delivers amazing sound quality

lol, i live in oakland, and all i hear all day is loud ass, trunk rattling bass, with no clarity, go to a car audio shop and hear the difference, you wanna sound crisp, reguardless of what kinda enclosure you use

my response is fashionably late...but here is my setup, leaves just enough space so I can still put my snowboard in there *shrug*

btw - my cardboard thing rattled so thats why its above the carpet lol
