My stereo deck got stolen AGAIN within a span of 1.5 months! This time they stole it even when I removed my face plate...

So guys, is there anything I can purchase and install that's not the usual deck?

Is there a way where I can install a wire to hook up my ipod instead of a WHOLE deck?

as far as I know there isnt a iPod interface for factory units in 2000. I'd suggest a better neighborhood, alarm, fenced yard with a scary ass dog, etc. JL audio does make the clean sweep that you could hook up to your factory headunit, should be able to run iPod through that.

The only thing i can recommend is investing in a good alarm with a proximity sensor. It will trigger if someone breaks the proximity field.....good if you like to be warned BEFORE your car gets broken into.

My head unit got stolen a few months ago along with my sub and amp. So this time when I get my new one I'm thinking about getting a 96-98 cup holder and relocating it down there. Less obvious I figure, but I'm also investing in a new alarm before i put anything else in.

One thing that you can do that might help is buy an OEM radio blockoff plate and either a 96-98 cupholder or 96-00 Type R cupholder with a slot for a single din radio. It should help to make your stereo less visible at least. Do you have any audio company stickers on your car, those tend to attract thieves.

I got to agree with gettng and alarm and the relocation as 2 of the best steps

as far as the iPod goes I did a write up a while ago for a stock unit: http://www.clubcivic.com/board/showthread.php?t=69893
the charger part is optional, if you wanted you could easliy get away with just the PIE adapter
IMO the JL CleanSweep is a great unit, but not at all cost effective for adding a iPod to a factory honda system...

I'm not sure what window tint laws are in T.O. but that can help. Where has it been stolen from, maybe don't put the new one in in front of your house this time, same thief maybe?

i think the stereo relocation would help alot especially if you left the upper din unit open. They'll just think no stereo or already stolen. I still think your best bet is a good alarm if you dont want it happening again. Even if you remove the face they will still break in hoping you left the face in the glovebox or under the seat...happens all the time.

alarm does nothing. it takes most thieves a couple minutes to steal a radio and nobody cares if an alarm is going for that long anyway. you know what the best way is? no radio. either go back to stock, or do what they did in the old days and leave the deck out 1/2 inch so whenever you park in bad areas, you just take out and unplug the deck. worked for me whenever i drove to work at ghetto blockbuster, i just left the deck at home and made sure the wires were sticking out the hole. nobody ever broke into my car again.

tint attracts theifs, doesnt keep them away.

Id personally have my windows just plain ole jane anyway... that way they can look in with ease and see i have nothing for them to take (in the summer time anyway, gutted ftw)... instead of breaking out a window,j ust to have the alarm go off and watch them run anyway. Then your out a window + new tint.

Ok, as for the question you asked.. I was wanting to do the same thing after a lot of cars got broken into at my job, but I started looking at the list of things I was told I would have to get (amp, line driver, install cost, etc) I just figured it wasnt worth it. So, what I did was this:

I have a tape player setup in my climate control bezel, and a pocket down by my 96-98 cupholders with my cd player in the glove compartment. When my glove compartment is up (as i flip it up whenever I leave my car) all you see is the tape player. Yeah, i know its just a cheap, $100 sony HU, but that's just good enough to get my car broken into so it had to get relocated. If you dont feel like doing this, putting it down by the cupholders is a good idea, but my cupholder would hit my buttons and knobs :x..

The worst part about why my stereo system got stolen is that the alarms went off at both times.
That neighbourhood is not bad, is just that I take the train to work so I MUST leave the car at train station - and the station is so quiet that an alarm will not do any good.

What is the JL Audio thingie for the ipod?

I was hoping to maybe have a little wire (and adaptor) that I can simply hook up my ipod to the car speakers. Any chance of that happening?

why not just get a stock cassette player with the cassette-to-cd wire adaptor, you can get one at walmart for $10

yeah gotta agree with the relocation to the cup holder area, much better reinforcement. since you were talking about an ipod, you could put in your factory setup and get the radio transmeter for the ipod and do it that way. Or you could do what a buddy of mine did, bolt a metal frame under the passenger seat and attach the hu to that, that way if someone breaks in the car and moves the seat the hu moves with it, its actually kinda tight.

thats a good idea. i also have seen people recess mount the hu and then make a fake stock faceplate (mens you have to destroy a stock deck) and put the faceplate over the radio. but the glove box idea is good too, esp with a cheap deck even if by some chance they break in, youll just be out the cheap stereo and not a messed up dash.

That tape player IS a fake stock faceplate, it just has other things behind it other than a cd player ...
