So I need more speed in my car and on a budget so looks like turbo is the way to go.

So i have a 98 Hatch with a Y8. I am Totally new to turbo. I dont know anything about putting together a turbo kit so as much help as you could give me would be great and explanations.

My budget Im looking into is below $1000 if possible.
This will be going on my daily driver. Im looking to get at least 200 whp. on stock internals if possible. I do want it to be reliable so if any essentials i need to change please let me know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

$1000 will NOT get you a reliable turbo setup. It will get you an ebay special and eventually a blown motor. It's worth it to spend the extra money to get a reliable, properly tuned setup.. and that will save you money in the end. Tuning alone will cost a pretty penny, and that is the most important part of any turbo setup.

Just remember the good 'old term.. 'Power, Reliable, Cheap. Pick two, the other is what yours is not'.

Yea..$1000 may not even get you a 'good' ebay setup. The first and easiest step in making your turbo kit is to determine your goals. What kind of power do you want to make? The more info you post will give you more results.

it's a y8 so it is possible to put a kit together for under 1000. I did it but remember that is just the kit, no tuning.

So now back to the original question. My recommendation is to search our for sale forum. Pick up yourself a cheap log manifold, a stock turbo from a 1st or 2nd gen eclipse, have a down pipe custom made, check out spoolinperformance.com for a fmic & pipes.

That is your basics. Keep in mind you will need a fuel pump, slightly bigger injecters, and an ems/tune to be safe and reliable.

14b turbo would be your best bet for a factory turbo, or I would just find an Evo3 16g turbo right away. They can handle anywhere from 6-26psi no problem! with the right tune of course..

your not gonna get any solid advice or step by step instructions by posting a thread on here. you need to do alot of research on turbo fundamentals, how they work, different setups to choose from, etc. before bolting anything forced induction onto your car. research. theres tons of turbo civic stuff on google

Yea you need to do a ton of research! Go to turbod16.com and d-series.org. You could get a used greddy turbo kit for around $900.00. Then i would do arp headstuds which are $100.00 with a new oem headgasket. And the tune is the most important part of the turbo setup!!! You would probably have to convert to obd1.
