Help with cam gear and after maker exhaust

I got 97 civic 1.6 vtec just needing advice on how to put on after mkt cam gear how do I do it with out messing up my timing n should I retard r advance r just leave as if after I had new one plus I got headers n catback exhaust n e thing I should know b4 installing it it should b easy rite lol thanks for ne help

Put that cam gear on craigslist, you dont need it.


As for exhaust, its a bolt on affair.

I usually just take the camshaft out and impact the cam gear off then reinstall the cam with the adjustable cam gear attached. Unless you have a cam gear holder tool. Some people just wedge a screw driver or something between the cam gear and head to hold it in place while they loosen and tighten the bolt without having to remove the cam. To me thats just a good way to break something. To each his own.

is there an adapter yor supposed to get with an adjustale cam, stock one has a rivet that locks into the head and the new one as a gap not a rivet lock thing

You don't need a cam gear if you don't have any supporting mods. Leave it at stock timing until you have a need to advance or retard your timing.
