I have a 2000 honda civic EX. Recently my check engine light came on. The car runs fine, so i used my snap on multi meter to find out what OBD2 code it was, PO420 low caytlis. bank 1 is what came up, I think has something to do with the O2 sensor in the header. The O2 sensor in the cat was just replaced because that was bad. Please help. thanks.

bank 1 is the o2 sensor in front of the cat and bank 2 is in or behind the cat

The problem isn't the o2 sensors. It is the convertor itself. If you have less than 80k it is still covered under warrenty. Honda's convertors were made a little cheaper a few years ago and they extended the warrenty on them because of it. They found that by cutting the cost of the convetor in half, they could afford to replace them under warrenty if they failed. A normal problem. You will have to replace the convertor to get rid of the code. The O2 sensors have their own codes.

A hint though. If it is still stock, I would strongly recommend saving your pennies and buying the factory convertor instead of some cheap aftermarket one. The aftermarket ones for some reason do not always do a good enough job for the convertor itself.

Of course, you could also get a o2 simulator and fool the computer into thinking that the convertor is working properly =)

question about replacement cat

I replaced the cat a few months ago and everything was fine for about 2 months then the check engine light came on. I ruled the cat out as a possability because it is new from honda.

Then I think that I would take it back to the dealership and make them fix it.
