I am planning on purchasing my first system. So I was wondering which brands of subs & amps to stay away from. A friend of mine has Audiobahn, those sound good. A co-worker has Kicker in his car and damn don't those sound good. And another friend has Pioneer and those sound pretty good as well. Aslo are those prepackaged subs+amp "systems" (http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=80801&c=1&cm_re=main marquee-_-Save up to $50 on subwoofers and amplifiers-_-MTX subwoofer/amplifier package) that circuitcity and bestbuy have any good?? Any help is aprreciated.

you should check out infinity, kenwood, alpine, kicker, rockford fostgate for subs. the audiobahns are good for just getting loud n wahtnot but their sound quality isnt all that great. hit up google and do some research on the brands, take a listen at stores and then decide from there..!

mtx is a pretty good company. if you got some money get kicker or jl or somthing like mtx. if you dont have to much money pionner, rockfort, kenwood, duel are all pretty good for the buck but stay away from lighing audio and and thing from walmart.

or better yet... go browsing your local audio shops, and not walmart. listen to what they have and formulate your own opinion. you ask people... and we're all biased and have our own preferences. you may find that the type of bass i like isn't what you like, etc.

so go browse for yourself.

if it's too good a deal to be true, you're probably buying shitty equipment.

Personally, I would define a budget and then go from there. It will then be easier to say which gear you should look at rather than what to avoid. But as Akiahara96 said, you will want to listen to some subs if possible.

Just remember that a good sub can sound like crap if installed poorly and a lesser sub can sound pretty good if installed well.

I run with MB Quart and Orion speakers. Kenwood HU, Kicker sub and Directed Amp.

All good stuff, but I get my family member discount =)

As said above, define what you want out of your system and your budget.
