I believe the factory security system/keyless entry on 96-98 models are integrated into the stock head unit. I'm not sure if you can still keep your keyless entry with an aftermarket HU, maybe someone else can shed some light.

you are correct on them being wired together. too keep the keyless entry you have to keep the stock headunit connected and leave it in the dash. i am not sure how this works because i had mine done. i know there are ppl here that know what wires need to still be connected to the stock unit.

you need a honda relocation harness. It's basically a t harness, sold at most stereo shops, for a diy go to circuit city, bestbuy makes their own relocation harnesses.

shove the stock stereo in the back of the dasg to retain the keyless entry

When I bought my EX used it didn't come with the remotes so I never had keyless entry. I added an alarm with keyless entry and it worked fine. So yea thats an alternative if you don't wanna go the other route.

Edit - if you add an alarm the keyless only works with the alarm remote not the stock remote.

yea, if your thinkin of gettin an alarm anyways, just get an alarm/keyless combo unit and there you go, you have a remote again. but like mentioned, your stock keyless will not work unless the factory radio is in the car.

Yeah you can get an alarm/keyless system and regain everything... the new alarm brain would control all rights of keyless thereby eliminating the need for the factory keyless module
