I've had my civic for a while now (D16Y7/auto trans), when suddenly out of no where I start it, flashing D4 and two codes that actually make sense. P1298 and P1768. When you start the car, it idles a little bit higher than a normal cold start, when the car is shifted into revers it thuds(urks towards the rear) the same happens with drive except forward. When drove the car was in fourth gear, if you move the shifter to 2 or D3 it makes no change. Ive tried to replace the Solenoids on the top of the tranny, jumped the old which clicked over, and "inspected" the harnes to best of my current ability, please help. It's my baby.

In the future please state your year, and model. The more info the better!

Causes for the issue on the right, but also make sure you have adequate tranny fluid in there.

Also take a look at this thread from HT involving our boy Ronnie. Although the OP in this thread has more CEL codes, they all went away with a simple fuse change:

http://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/99-civic-throwing-p1768-p1298-p0135-p0141-after-jump-starting-friends-truck-3159378/

ELD issues aren't fun to troubleshoot, unfortunately.

This fixed the issue, it was fuse #15. There was a spare in the box. Also after doing this and letting the car warm to operating temp, the tac went from about 1000 to 2500 then back n forth. The car shut itself down, or died (not sure, everything happened within ten seconds while I was trying to find out why). After turning off and back on, the engine light was on, the only active code p0505. What do?

It's A 2000 civic Lx D16y7 sorry....

P0505 is idle air control valve (IACV) code, though it can be caused by many other things like a vacuum leak, bad ECT sensor, TPS, etc.

Did the ELD CEL go away?

You have a fluctuating idle so it sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Check for any disconnected hoses and look into how to do a vacuum test. ANY extra air into the engine will confuse the ECU and cause your car to run like crap.

Also, take a look at this service bulletin from Honda: http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/tsb/civic/x99-029e.pdf

Check fuse 15 again. Is it blown? IF SO: Check the wire harness underneath the intake manifold bracket. Check it thoroughly for damaged, cut or burnt wires.

This is a common issue with 6th gens that your car may have recently gotten involved with.
