Why would HID lights get banned? Blinding people maybe? Thats so damn ghey, so much stuff in this damn country gets legislated against or banned or just generally crapped on.

Don't really see why they are being banned if they are SAE/DOT approved when you buy a stock BMW, Mercedes, etc. Shouldn't have approved it in the first place if they are just gonna recall it and ban it. How very gay.

But, whats really cool about some HID's (mainly the projector ones do this) is when refracted at a certian angle, they will look various diff. colors, just as yellow, white, blue, purple, etc. I'm sure you've all seen these on the infinities, BMW's, benz, acura TSX, and other luxury cars. Its actually a HId system inside of a projector lense, for those who didn't know. But correct me if i'm wrong, thats just to my knowledge.

Last I heard about HIDS......HIDs arent illegal to have...As of August 15, 2003 ( I believe that was the date, sometime in Aug) HIDs were deemed illegal to sell...If you bought them before Aug 15 or already had them installed before Aug 15 they are still legal..you just legally arent allowed to buy them anymore...Although I know that xenondepot.com is still selling them

i was under the impression that fitting HIDs on a car that didn't come with HIDs stock, wouldn't pass a visual inspection, thereby not getting a sticker. of course in states with very lax traffic control (most of the midwest), there is no problem

Thats a good point....I know that HIDs are legal if they were bought before Aug 15 or installed by then...I dont know how they would know if you didnt do that....technically they arent suppose to be selling them anymore but they are because companies are trying to fight the ban...as for cars that come with them out of the factories of course they are legal, they wouldnt make them if they werent..besides, think of the cars they come on, BMW, mercedes, etc..if you pay that much for a car it better have HIDs...

well...some dude ask how come HID are not illegal in stock cars...thats because the projector headlight were designed so that the light will reflect with a certain angle that will not make it too bright... but the aftermarket HID's that ppl put it their civics, etc are supposidly being relfected in too many angles and can be too bright....

96greencivic, Tacoma-Srunner:

The kit I have, is made by a local Taiwanese company here, which uses the HELLA ballasts along with special designed HID bulbs, that has a mini-motor built in, that moves the bulb forward and back, to give it high/low beams. Not the conventional HID kits you see on eBay, with a little halogen bulb built on the side for high beams.

I'm sure it will be available on eBay very soon.

Since it is a fairly new technology, it cost me about US$600 large.....I know......costly.....but I'm obssessed with bright lights and UFOs =) So I had to get them.

8000K color temperature isn't the best choice, when it comes to lighting up the dark, because it shoots out with a very very purple/bluish color (turns the whole world into purple/blue). 6000K color temp. is generally being said as THE SAFEST for HIDs, because they are the closest to being a true white light. That is why car manufacturers fit stock HIDs around 6000K now days.

But 8000K is just too dope at night.....so I chose the 8000K.....like Dr. DRE said " ALL FOR SHOW!" =)

PS - Any HID kits you guys get, I strongly suggest you make sure the ballasts are German made (HELLA or OSRAM, they're the best, that's why all major car manufacturers use only these two brands), because ballasts are the most important piece of equipment in a single HID kit. Don't get the cheap Taiwan or Korean made ones, those might screw up your electrical or even cause your HID bulbs to explode due to their inconsistency in quality.

PPS - Aim low! So you don't blind the on-coming traffic! I'll try and take some pics lighting up the road to show you folks soon.
