does everybody use honda oem fluids (power steering, brake, tranny, etc)?
i'm gonna do all that soon and just wondering if honda is trying to make me buy their products or does it really shorten the life of my car.
all the fluids i use are of hi quality aftermarket.

I do use Honda Specific power steering fluid, but not Honda brand. Don't use regular P/S fluid in a Honda

Against a quality brand name lubricant, there is no advantage or disadvantage to using Honda brand. Unless you count price as a disadvantage. Castrol, Valvoline, and Pennzoil/QuakerState all cost about 1.79 a quart at AutoJoke/UhOh 'Reilly's...and both carry good DOT 4 Brake fluids. Honda Manual transmissions use regular engine oil. Honda Automatics use Dexron. (Dexron II is specified but Dexron III is fine. It meets all of 2's standards) Besides, I think Honda oil is just repackaged Mobil or something.

its really up to you what kind of lubricants you want to use. unless you car is under warrenty, and the manufacturer specifies a certain fluid. doubt yours is still under warrenty though :???: i don't know about all honda oils, but i heard rumors that their motor oil might just be repackaged ordinary mobil 1. i don't use the manufacturer's oil for anything, because i think performance lubricant companies know more about that and what they are doing. just me though. it makes more sense that companies that strictly make one kind of product will be higher quality. like k&n filters. i consider them a good, high quality filter and prefer them over oem because they know their business and have a proven product. likewise, i choose to spend money on synthetic oils rather than paying for overpriced conventional oils from a dealer that are probably about the same price, but less "quality". that just my 2 cents, flip it however you like..

hmmmm... don't know about that. i'm sure honda (and every other manufacturer of anything with an engine) will tell you to use their oils, just so you dump your cash for more of their products (and all manufacturer oils/lubes seem to be over priced too. :naughty: ). not saying oem isn't good stuff, but i think there is better out there. again, its really up to you. i know some people who swear by using everything oem. and yeah, a lot of oem stuff makes sense to get. like with body parts, NOTHING fits like oem, so i think it makes more sense to go that route than try to make some poor quality aftermarket part fit. but as for oils, i think you are better off using oils and lubes that are made by a good company that specializes in only that. like royal purple for example. but hey, to each his own. yes, you could run just about anything, and your car would probably last a while, but the question is just how long and what kind of wear and damage will develop over time..

i don't know, probably. i use 100% synthetic, so i could care less about the refined stuff. and they do make dot4 brake/clutch fluid. the higher the number, the more heat it is supposted to withstand. i'm sure you'll be fine with the dot3 though. did you get the honda fluid?
