I just got my civic on saturday and have mastered driving it in 3 days (thanks to some advice from people here on the forums, and the shifting section of the owners manual. I want to know how long it took some of you to learn it. (the advice my bro gave me was to let off the clutch slowly till the car vibrates and give it gas as you let off the clutch from first gear and reverse, when shifting hit 3k rpm let off the gas shift slowly let off the clutch and apply gas as you let off.) It took my mom a week, took my brother 4 days, took my step dad a day and a half. Took me 3 days.

maybe a couple hours. i learned on a old pickup truck in a field with the shifter on the column so everything i've driven since then has been far easier than that. plus i ride motorcycles so i already had a feel for the clutch.

Dunno. I learned 'stick' on my dirt bike when I was a kid. Hopped in my parents 5spd Stratus and never had a problem.

It's like swimming, I've just always been able to do it :what:

Just a couple of tries in a late 80s s10 on gravel and hills. I've never owned an auto in my life.

1 full day of driving. Learning in the mountains sux btw.... I was dumping the clutch at every redlight and stop sign that was on a hill for fear of rolling in to the a*****e behind me that seemed like he was way to f**king close to me..

It took me not too long, I was used to dirt bikes, and my first driving experiance in a stick was my friends 98' SI with a bad clutch... and soon as I got mine I could drive it like I always had one!... as for me, my first car is a standard, and my last car will be one too ! :D

Learned on a tractor also.

Raced dirtbikes since i was five or so and always drove cars and trucks around the farm since i was twelve or so.

Everything had terrible clutches and trannys then from there on driving a car with a good clutch is cake!

Been driving heavy haul big rigs/ tractor trailer since i was 19.
I think i was born to drive...

02 celica gts, about a couple hours in a lot, then multiple trips on hills. that clutch suuuucked to learn on, it was really touchy lol. I have never owned an auto either. Manual trannys are becoming extinct tho lol.

Ive only driven a manual once, and in the 20 minutes i had, I must've stalled it a million times trying to get going in first. The pedals in a focus are awkward and I couldn't get the clutch and gas pedal right. Eventually I started getting better but I need more lractice.
