Alright, so I finally accomplished this over the past couple days, it wasn't too bad, but overall it went real well. I haven't found any DIY on the internet for this & got frusterated that there wasn't a guide, so I figured that i'd post one up.
Supplies / Tools Needed:
- (1) Spray Can of Testors Competition Orange #1628 (can be found at your local hobby / paint shop). You can get a jar of brush paint, which might make it easier.
- A very fine tip paintbrush
- Your basic screwdriver
- Pair of Pliers
- Patience
Estimated Time:
30-40min
Refer to another archive on how-to remove your cd player unit from either your climate control or pocket
1. To undo the faceplate, remove the (2) screws on the side of the unit, pretty close to the faceplate itself.
2. Using a flathead screwdriver, gently pry the faceplate of your cd player away from the rest of the unit, prying each side at a time until it "pops" off.
3. With the faceplate removed, undo the (2) screws located on the back of the faceplate, toward opposite sides.
4. You'll notice the back of faceplate begin to have some play, its stuck on the volume control. From the backside, use a flathead to pry at the volume control area until the back part of the faceplate comes off, exposing the lightbulbs and other electrical stuff.
5. You should notice approx. (7) minature bulbs with blue covers over them, this is where the pliers come in handy.
6. I couldnt get enough grip with my hands to remove the cover, so I used pliers to pull the blue covers off each of the bulbs.
7. Once the covers are removed, now comes the fun part. Grab your paint can & spray into a cup, so you get a "puddle" of paint, or if you opted for the brush paint, use that. Either way, grab a small tip brush and carefully "dab" each bubble with the paint until they are covered. NOTE: Becareful not to get paint on the electrical board, im not sure what happens, but didn't want to be the one to find out. I find it easiest to dab the top of the bulb and the paint kinda spreads itself over the bulb. It doesnt need more than one coat, once its covered, let it be.
8. Resemble the unit (once the bulbs are dry - which takes only seconds) and gaze at your amber / si cd player.
NOTE: I do not take responsibility for messing up your cd player, this is merely a guide and this how-to is not recommended for those not comfortable with doing it.
