ok, so everyone around here who has a honda (5th gen, maybe older, or a tad newer) with power windows has had problems with their windows, right? sometimes they won't roll up, and you have to play with the switch like 148 times before it works...and then you're worried about going to the drive-thru or you just open the door everywhere you go....well, enough crap, this is a possible solution for y'all!! (my super genius mechanic friend helped me with this back in the day)
TOOLS NEEDED:
1. phillips screwdriver (if you are wondering who phillip is, stop right now),
2. slotted screwdrivers (flat heads),
3. pencil with eraser (i don't care if it's #2 or not),
4. and some patience
HOW TO:
1. use the phillips screwdriver and remove the little power window switch contraption from the door (there will be 1 screw in there, look inside the pocket thing that people use to pull the door closed when sitting inside)
2. take the contraption to a clean area where you can work
3. remove the little black rubber thing on the back of the switches by pulling it off(1 soft thing used to keep dust, dirt and grime off)
4. there will be small phillips screws that will remove the switches...and they will come off
5. now it gets tricky!! use a tiny slot scredriver to pry off the little golden curved thing in between the switches (it sits on the while cylindrical rod that runs through the switches and allows them to stay in place)....you will see it, just look for it (be very careful as the thing may pop off into some corner, never to be found
6. once off, the colored switch you use to roll the windows up and down will come off (it may need some tugging, but be careful), and you will see some V or L shaped metal pieces with 2 pointy contacts on them, resting in the spot where the switch was removed from
7. the ones that are not working will probably be brown, or blackened
8. take the fresh eraser end of the pencil, and gently rub the "color" off of the metal pieces...they should turn shiny!! (do both sides of the metal piece, 1 at a time)
9. great!! now place the metal pieces back in the original spots, and reinstall in reverse order...BE CAREFUL OF THAT METAL RING THAT SITS ON THE WHITE ROD BETWEEN THE SWITCHES, it will be a 'lil pain to put on, but be patient and use a tad of force (needle nose pliers may help place it, then you can push it on with the end of the tiny slot screwdriver
I have done this on my car, and several other cars, and it solves the problem 95% of the time...esp if the switches were working intermittently, and then not at all...and if you rule out other causes and are stumped, try this!!
g'luck fellas and PM me with questions, concerns, etc...peace out
