If you're in California then you will not be able to have a JDM motor pass. In the past they would pass you with a USDM intake mani and proper ecu, no more from what I've read. Your best bet is to sell/trade the type-r for a lesser USDM C1 or put some $$ on top for a US spec C5. You will also need the correct ECU. After that's all in then you have to pass smog.

Good luck to you and let us know how it turns out.

I forgot to mention that I've seen some LS motors pass which is an easier swap. They then give you a BAR sticker that only states 1.8 liter. So in theory you could slap VTEC head after getting BAR'd but smog may be an issue.

Whatever you do, dont get a cheap "universal" cat. Get an OEM one, or try to find a used OEM one.

Simple if you dont want to loose you TR get a '97+ SOHC engine with all stock parts and take that. just make sure motor is same year of car or newer. my friend did that and after six months sold the single cam and got his B20 swapped back

Yeah your car wont pass

sucks about the state ref

either put a sohc in there to pass

or pay the fine, then register the car in another state (get a lisence in said state at same address as well)

intake and header if not carbed

and if you have access to a laser etch put a "1" next to the "C" on your block and you might pass lol

Header looks OEM.

Put the OEM intake and valve cover back on. I know the fake Mugen VC has nothing to do with smog, but it will tell them your car is modified. And no, you wont look cool in front of them.

god.. ur state is gay..
yup i just had to get my lic renewed today, required a thumbprint (they said 9-11 but no thumbprint was required at my last renewal in 2005)

and apparently if i get in an accident while dui now that causes the other person to die im liable for murder  (and so is any other californian who has renewed their lisence since 2008)

that has been the case in any DUI death not just recently and not just here in CA

should be involuntary manslaughter, not murder

ok well i got a question for you guys, why the hell does it matter what kind of work you have done to your car, motor swap etc...???? do they not let you inspect it, if it has work done to it? i live in maine, it doesnt matter what we do to ours, except put the stock exhaust on when going to get it inspected....

because the state of california is run by nazi liberals who believe that the smog is directly caused by everyones car and want to force people to buy newer cars all the time because they are more efficient.

Never mind that science has proven that a lot of northern californias smog actually blows across the pacific from china ... and mexico is the leading contributor to bad air in southern california

yea, until he gets pulled over again and gets in trouble again

good! if you're drunk and you kill someone that is murder.
your retarded.

yea it sucks that you killed someone, but you need to have intent to have murder.

like melt said, it should be involuntary manslaughter.
