How to properly lower a car on lowering springs - do i have shocks or struts

Hi everyone. I am new to this site and want to make a couple mods to my 99 civic coupe. I am thinking about lowering my car if i get new wheels and tires.

How to I properly lower my car with the lowering springs? Do I only need to buy new struts and thats all for the suspension or is there more to it?

Does the 6th gen civic have shocks or struts?

Thanks for all the help!

You have shocks, and seriously I don't want to be mean, i was a Honda newb less than a year ago.

But if you can see the link at the top of the page that says "Civic Part Store".... go there

use the drop down menu to choose your car, I used a 2000 Civic, and scrolled to suspension and clicked on "shocks/struts" link and everything listed was shocks. I can safely assume from that tested hypothesis that your car, if it is a 6th gen has shocks.

Also in my very unprofessional and unknowledgeable opinion, it doesn't matter, shocks are struts and struts are shocks for all intents and purposes

Now please don't get all snippy, I'm half trolling and half trying to actually help here;)

Also I highly recommend the Civic Parts Store listed above if you're looking for drop springs and struts, and LCA's and all that good jazz.

I'm running the Koni Oranges with Tein S-Tech springs and BWR LCA's. Installed them yesterday and they're awesome for a daily driver. All picked up at our own Civic parts store.

I am not affiliated with the web store at all, I just really enjoyed getting good deals and I keep coming back here.

Also got my Yonaka exhaust here, A+ as well!

You need to decide how low you want to go, what kind of ride quality you want, sporty/stiff for fun or daily driver, and what your budget is.

There are a bunch of lowering springs to choose from. A few work recently with stock shocks, some require aftermarket shocks. But you're usually better off replacing the shocks esp if it fits your budget.

Once you have installed your springs and shocks and completely finish the job, you will need to get an alignment. If you don't, your tires will likely wear out pretty fast.

I also have orange Koni Str.t shocks & Tein S-Tech springs & they ride is great for my daily driver. I can take very tight turns with no rubbing. Here's how they look on SI rims with 195-50-15 tires.
