i need advice from EG experts

Heres my scenario... i have $6k on the side and a 95' EX Civic sedan with the basics (intake, exhaust, suspension) ready for a motorswap. But i suddenly decided i didnt want the swap to be in a 4door so i need to sell my current car and get a new all motor EG civic hatch or coup. with my $6k budget and the money ill get for my current car around $2k - $3k im wondering what i should do? i can only sell my car after i get a new one or else i wont have anything to drive, but i need to know the specifics to start a low 13's or better car project. With my initial $6k should i get a hatch/coup with a b16 swap already? or buy a hatch/coup stock and see over the swap myself. And either way, which motor is best for an eg? d, b, h series? What kinda turbo, should i even put turbo on? sometimes i argue with myself that all a turbo would do is bring more problems to the project in the long run and an all motor is the best answer. *sigh* s**t... i need a kickstart. :???:

whats wrong with 4dr's? they are great and i happen to drive one 8)

and if its a weight issue i'm almost positive that 5th gen coupes and 4doors weight the same... or very very close.

oh yeah and then you can rock this slogan...

"4 doors for more whores"

EDIT::: why not just swap into the 4dr and keep the stock motor... then when you're ready for another civic pull it out and put the stock back in. viola.

i like that idea, only downfall would be cost of labor or pissing my friend off (lol) because i cant really do it myself. But id really like to get started as soon as possible, so theres no point in me idling time by having the swap in the 4 door then re-swapping. Nothing wrong with 4-doors, but its just time for a change of look. Thanks for your opinion though. :D

its understandable... lots of people don't like to rock the 4 doors because they aren't as popular. personally i got a 4door because it was my only option at the time and it was for a decent price, and i'm glad i got one because its more original, around here anyway. IN fact. i have the fastest 4 door civic in my area... because i'm the only 4 door civic in my area ;)

its all in what you like, if you want to drive a hatch with a picnic table for a wing, its their decsion to get laughed at ;) Good luck on the swap bro

i rock the 4 doors. i dunno why but i like the eg sedans better than the coupes, i think it's because of the coupe's lump at the top of the trunk. i was able to get into 13's with my 92 lx before it got killed but i'd say it costed me more than your budget. and i just bought another 94 sedan :D. also, one thing i'm going to do this time around that you should consider is research more, and take your time on it. my first one i was kinda in a rush, i could have took my time and gotten away with alot of the things that didn't go to well which resulted in more $$$ loss.

if you want a low 13's car.. buy a 92 hatch.. for say.. 2-3 g.. that covers your oldcar.. then you could say get a b18c5.. ( friend has this in his eg hatch and he runs 13.5) or if you wanted to spray.. you can get 12.1 soo car.. 2500. swap. 4500 =7000. leaving... 2000 left over for exhaust, intake, header and so on!.

so you're saying the best swap at my budget for an eg coup/hatch is a b18c5?

what else does your friend have modded to his type r because a stock swapped tpye r won't run anywhere near 13's.

if you look you can find a 92 -95 hatch cheap enough. im buying one that needs some body work for 800$

Dont get the Type-R motor. its 1000$ more than a gsr for 20 hp.... and try buying parts $$$. Acura loves when you come to the parts counter and say "I need" and "ITR" in the same sentence.

correct,i have a c5 and ran 13.8 stock
did a few mods to it and got ran 13.1

if i could do it all over i would have gotten a GSR engine dor 2k less and ivested that 2k back into it and prolly be in the high 12s

only thing special about the c5 is the internals....but if you plan on buliding a engine then a c1 and c5 are pretty much the same

well it depends what you want to do.........if you want to go track go with a hatch witch is always better then a 4 door.....but if you want 1/4 mile it doesn't matter.......

i suggest you save about 2k more and go with a k20 swap.......should leave you in the 13 range......

I sense that alot of people lately with type R's are f**kin full of s**t, sorry :(

It's gonna be harder to get into mid 13's with all motor ;) A ls/vtec will get you there but you need to be fully gutted, slicks, cams, race fuel and many other mods. Not to mention that you'll probably be broke down half of the time. I have a friend that hits mid 13's with his ls/vtec eg and has everything I mentioned but his motor is fully built. I think I have a vid of his car somewhere. I know I have a vid of him spanking a h22 eg

Just thought I would add this to the table. My old 92 Civic VX Hatch had a JDM B20B with bolt on's and a B16 Tranny. I ran a 14.34 in the 1/4 with 13 inch M/T slicks.
You can always make a all motor non-vtec monster if you like too. My new Civic is a 93 DX and it has:

Stock B20Z2 Block
99 LS Head
Port & Polished
Three Angle Valve Job
Crower Dual Springs & Retainers
Crower 404 Cams
AEM Fuel Rail, Pressure Regulator, & Cam Gears
Skunk2 Intake Manifold & 68mm Bored Throttle Body
Short Ram Intake
DC Sports 4-2-1 Header
Stock Cat
Tusudo Catback
B16 Tranny
B & M Short Shifter
Hondata S200 Running A Base Map Right Now

Before I added the AEM stuff and the Crower 404s I was making 143 to the wheels. I plan to go back and see where I am at now then get it tuned later. I may have a total of $5500 in car and all. I bought most of everything from E-Bay so that's how I saved money.

keep the 4 dr. sell the motor. find a salvage yard with motors already out of the car. find a good b-series to build from the bottom up. this way you can setup the motor the way you want it....for boost....N/A. whatever you want to do. besides you will learn more about your motor. if anything goes wrong you will be more likely to know what the problem is.

must be a factory freak, i haven't seen any stock type R swap running in the 13's, execpt in a a crx with minor tuning which did 13 very highs.
