idle problems on a cold start

For about a minute after a cold start my engine revs itself looking for an idle, from about 1k to just under 2k repetitively. Driving a 1995 Ex. I know some of the most common problems would be a dirty IACV or messed up throttle position sensor. I'm looking for advice on how to figure out if either of these is the issue, I'm not much of a mechanic and only have basic tools at my disposal. I know both of these parts can be relatively easily removed without much technical knowledge, any advice on performing maintenance on them would be greatly appreciated.

If it's bouncing like that you have a vacuum leak somewhere. I would start by cleaning the IACV since it's very easy to do. You might want to clean and check the throttle body / TB gasket as well. Double check all your hoses too.
