ignition damaged during theft

Hey folks. I'm new here. I need some advice on some damage that was done to my ignition when some asshat stole my car last week. Thankfully I got it back and it still runs fine, but the key doesn't go into the ignition all the way and I can't turn it to the full off position. I'm guessing the steering wheel lock was broken when they stole it. Do I need to replace the ignition, or is the locking mechanism separate. Oh right. It's a 93 Civic DX. I'm also thinking about getting a detachable steering wheel, but the only ones I've found so far are the NRG ones that are a little smaller then the stock steering wheel. My baby doesn't have power steering, and it's already a b***h to parallel park, so are there any other detachable steering wheels out there? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum! not sure if the wheel lock is separate from the ignition, but i do know that there are tons of aftermarket steering wheels/hubs out there to choose from.

After some research I'm starting to worry that I'm going to have to replace the ignition and hub anyway, so now my big worry is the fact that I can't turn the key to the 0 mark. All the instructions say to do this first when replacing the ignition. Or alternately I may just keep it as is and be able to start my car with a fork if I feel like it.

You could always install a push button hidden somewhere and jb weld the ignition. A thief would be wtf

You could rig it so that when the next a*****e comes along and tries to go for the ignition switch an attack baboon comes out of the trunk and chews his ass off.

Love it! Thanks for the laugh, but I suck at wiring. So for now I'm just pulling out the wires every night. It's a pain, but I gotta do something so I can sleep at night.

The wiring isn't the hard part, it's keep the baboon occupied between attacks that is tricky.

You might as well pull the ignition switch out, put the key in and see if the locking tab moves at all. It looks like it sticks out (its like a square tab) when the key is not in it and it catches a square indent on the wheel or column or whatever. Since yours can't go all the way back now the tab is still recessed and not catching anything.

I've done a few ignition swaps before on my old EGs and Preludes. I took TONS of pictures of how they work and how to remove/reinstall them. Let me know if you need anything. It is possible to remove the wheel lock from the ignition or just JB weld it from coming out into the lock position.
