Ignition kill switch

I need to figure out the best method for killing ignition power to the engine from a momentary switch. I'm looking to set this up to so I can coast with my engine off frequently. Do the coils or injectors share a common 12v source, or ground? Specifically, i need something that keeps my dash and odometer powered.

Just set up a kill switch to the fuel pump. That's what most people do anyway. Although, coasting without power is a terrible idea. No power brakes, no power steering, you can't accelerate to avoid anything. If you really feel like it's necessary just press the clutch in if you drive a stick, or switch to neutral if you drive an automatic.

Any gas that you may save doing that will likely go to waste when you shift back into drive, or release the clutch and your rpms shoot back up.

The fuel pump will be problematic, as it will be too slow to take effect. Coasting with the engine off is not a terrible idea, it has its appropriate uses. Steering is the only thing that is really effected, and its not bad when moving. Also, the your comment about the engine rpm's shooting up isn't logical. First, I am using 5th gear when i let the clutch back out to restart it. Second, the engine is being driven by the wheels and momentum, not driving with its own power. The method is very effective at reducing fuel consumed and has a proven track record.

I'll admit that I haven't looked too far into it, but I can't see the gas saved being worth the trouble and inconvenience of coasting with the motor off.

Thank you for your opinions. Not very helpful towards the the thread however. The correct answer is yes, the injectors share a common 12v source that can be switched to have the effect I am looking for. The details were found in this thread from another forum

well excuse me for thinking shutting down your power steering was a bad idea.

The point is, I didn't ask advice about if it was a good idea, or what the effects might be. I am well aware of the risks. I'm not upset, i just want to stay on topic.
