a turbo kit will give you everything and then some, but most kits are lacking in some areas like they come without fuel management and intercoolers so you end up paying more than just what the kit is priced at...

as far as custom goes, this is how i personally am setup up my turbo project. Its alot cheaper and you can mix and match parts to meet your needs, i just bought alot of the critical parts needed in a kit and i havent even broken the 1000 dollar mark. Custom is the way to go in my book

what engine will you be turbochargin?
whats your budget?
what are your expected goals and how much boost do you plan on running?

custom is the way to go if you dont want to spend alot but want more than what a kit will give you!! i have the intercooler, charge pipes, turbo, bov, manifold for 300 bucks even.

it's been said before, i'll say it again: definately have complete knowledge on how a turbocharged system works. know it inside and out. i've been learning about boosting my d16 for over a year and half now... and i'm nowhere near ready.

alot of things that you might not even understand is in that book(well i don't understand some of it and i consider myself a clued person). gives the math behind turbo efficency. picking the right size for your app. what intercoolers are the best.
