hey im new to this site and i also just recebtly bought a 97 civic cx hatchback.
the car has a few issues...
1.) theres a clunk when i go around turns every now and then i was thinking cv axles?
2.)it grinds alittle bit once ina while when i downshift into 3rd. possibly the syncronizer?
i was wondering if it was worth it to repair this tranny or just get a new one?
like i said im new to civics and i dont know all the quirks or problems but i am good with a wrench and im lookin for some help.

thanks for lookin pleaseresond with help lol

could be a synchro, those trannies are cheap buy a good used one

clunk could be several things, check your cv joints usually the culprit in my case

post pics of your car

welcome

yes your 3rd gear grinding is your synchro going. you can do one of 3 things to fix this:
1) stop downshifting to 3rd
2) replace your 3-4 gear synchros (comes as a sleeve set) for $180.
3) pick up a used trans from the junkyard, criagslist, ebay and swap it out.

depending on how good you look, and if you can get a cheap good used trans, 3 may be your best option. 2 is good if you cant find a cheap trans and if you know how to work on transmission internals, which isnt very difficult but there are a few tricks
