Hi everyone,

I have been frantically searching the internet on how to install actuators on my 2005 Honda Civic VP Coupe. I purchased 2 basic universal actuators off ebay. Because I couldn't find information on installing these, I took it too Circuit City...probably a bad move, but the next nearest place was 30 miles away. Anways, I have a viper alarm installed but Circuit City can't seem to get the actuators to work. For now I have the car but I need to take it in again to get it finished. I am worried they do not know what they are doing. Could someone provide me with information to give to them to do a proper install? A step process, diagram, etc would be extremely helpful. I'm not sure where he put the actuators, but the locks are not poping at all and now I can barely unlock the doors with my key.... Please help me! Is the problem the actuators or the installers?

Thanks,
Brian

It was difficult to install the actuators on my car as well. It required a little bit of fabrication. If you take your door panel off you should be able to figure out whats going on.
The actual actuators need to be installed underneath the door lock/unlock switch facing upwards, had to bend the door panel metal and make it flat to do that, I didn't use the mounting brackets just screwed it right into the door panel. The rod, using the mounting clamp, has to connect directly to the lock/unlock switch, I had to bend my rods in order to get them to line up. The actuator is basically pushing up the lock/unlock switch so you don;t have to. The actuator rods and clamps do NOT get installed to the door handle rods, they will not work if you install them on the door handle rods... found that out the hard way, and which is what I think Circuit City is doing to your car. In order to connect the rod mounting clamp to the switch, I had to cut away some of the white plastic that surrounds the unlock switch on the bottom because the rod mounting clamp which attaches to the rod of the actuator would not have fit. Once I did that I still realized there was not enough room for the mounting clamp and, here comes the fun part, had to grind the mounting clamp down in order to fit using a grinder. As far as you door now being hard to lock/unlock you have to take a few of the foam pads off from the inside of the door that are in the way... just break them off, they are glued on and come off with a little bit of force.
I don't know if this made any sense and I think the guys at your Circuit City don't know what they are doing and I wouldn't take it back to them. I wish I had pictures but I don't; however I remember there being a thread on this a while ago, just try to search for it. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks so much! Hopefully this will solve the problem. I tried to do a search but didn't find anything under "actuator" or "power lock." Since I already paid for the install at CC (Gave me a discount and got alarm, wireless, and to be actuators installed for $80), I think I'll take it back there since I won't be charged, but inspect them while they do it. Plus, I don't have the tools to do that which they should have.

When you say you grinded it down, what part of the mounting clamp did you grind down?

the side that attaches underneath the lock/unlock switch. It wouldn't fit underneath the switch due to the limited space so i grinded it down to pretty much half of what it was

So, the aftermarket actuators are a no go on the "cable wire" system in my 2005 honda civic VP. So, I bought OEM latch and now I need someone to install or else i'm going to have to do myself. The one local place besides circuit city that will do it is quoting $300 a door just for labor!!! No way am I paying that much! So, does anyone have instructions on how to install oem lx latches on a VP?
