I installed a new head gasket in a 92 Honda civic 1.5L. Shaved the head and had it checked by the machine shop. Once everything was put together it started. Reved up really high then leveled off. I didn't move the timing belt at all. Also when I was putting the header back on 2 of the bolts broke so the header is not attached to the muffler. Will this effect it? please any help would be nice I was doing this head job for a lady at church.

"Won't run right" isn't sufficient information to give a proper diagnosis. Please provide more information, including everything you have done so far to troubleshoot.

My guess based off the very limited description is that you didn't plug something back in vacuum related, but it could be anything as we have nothing to go off of.

It idles at 750 sounds really loud as soon as I put it in gear in bogs down really bad. It wont pull forward or reverse at all it just dies. The engine doesn't shake. How do you check the timing on these. I Have a timing light. The header not being hood up does that effect how it runs? if timing was off would it just not start or would it run really rough.

A timing light is for checking ignition timing, not mechanical. The exhaust manifold not being hooked up can throw off the readings to the o2 sensors.

I guess it was nice of you trying to fix this old lady's car, but you really need to either buy a Haynes manual or take it to a reputable shop before you do some serious damage to it.

So in short you have no idea. Lol O2 sensor is not the issue was asking if the header not being hooked would effect it. Does it need that back pressure. I have a Haynes Manuel did everything in it as it said that's why I am asking on a forum were people have experience and might know. But please don't comment if you yourself have no idea and can only make vague under educated statements.

Holy f***, you come in here asking for help and the second we tell you that we have nothing to go off you you tell me I don't know what I'm talking about?

You asked what the unbolted up manifold will do, yeah running with s***ty o2 signals has noting to do with how well the vehicles runs. It's not an issue though obviously, it's not like oxygen sensors do anything important right?

You say you have a timing light and a Haynes manual, the only way you can't figure out where to go from there is if you can't read.

Have you checked the mechanical timing? Pulled codes? Checked compression/spark/fuel pressure? You have said nothing about what you have done to fix this issue, only how you f***ed up this person's car.

Yeah, I'm the one with no idea and making vague statements. By the way its manual, not manuel. Unless you have a Hispanic there telling you what to f*** up next, clearly I'm the uneducated one.

And people wonder why RonJ is the way he is, unreal.

you are 100% right I should not have got crappy the timing light shows its in time idles at 750. runs really good at idle but as soon as you put it in gear and hit the gas it dies. All vacuum lines are hooked up and I checked with the Haynes.
its not a vague statement I told you everything I have done compression checked out with Haynes. Haynes manual doesn't trouble shoot this issue well that's why I asked for help.

My question right now does the exhaust manifold need to be hookup to the muffler for back pressure or can I run it with just the manifold hooked up

You can run it without the muffler hooked up
