Alright Ill be installing my turbo setup soon on my d16y7 - running an FMU unit at around 5 psi until I finish getting all the parts together. is 5 psi going to run alright on stock injectors for now?

I just wanted to see if anyone can list what else I needed.

I have a d16y8 head but I need an intake mani before i do the minime swap

after that this is what I plan on picking up - If I plan on tuning the car with crome myself what else am I gonna need?

im gonna grab a p28 ecu chipped for crome - obd2 to obd1 conversion
then what else do I need? I was gonna grab the Lc01 Lambda Cable w/ wideband 02 censor
AEM EGT gauge
Fuel Pressure and Oil Pressure
obviously I need CROME
and from what I have been reading Im gonna need the ostrich ROM emulator - datalogging cables
do I need the chip burner? or since I will already have the chipped ECU I just need to kinda flash it with CROME? I have been reading alot on the CROME forums and turbod16 but these are some of the things im unsure. just wanted to see if anyone can help me out.

thanks for the help in advance - Im still reading and learning before I jump into all this - but I wanna make sure I get everything I need - thanks again

Well, definetly stick with a chipped ecu (crome,...). You could use the fmu but, I wouldn't suggest using it though. You can use the romulator and/or once tunned, you can burn a rom in place. As for the injectors, what kind of turbo are you using? How much CFM is it? If you are going to tune it yourself, you'll need crome pro. But, personaly I'd bring it to the dyno jet and ask what the tunner is familiar with. You said "mini me" swap, are you putting the y8 head on a y7 block?:?:

yes im putting the y8 head on the y7 block - I will be running the FMU on the y7 until i get the rest of the parts to swap heads - there is only 1 shop around here that tunes but they are known for their supras, but I can go there and see what they say - I currently am running a 14b turbo for now - I was gonna get some DSM injectors and do the radio shack resistor thing ...

either way Im still going to need the EGT/Wideband O2/Oil pressure and fuel pressure/ gauges ... as for the ECU if the local tuner doesnt use CROME - would you recommend just going with whatever they use? people just rant and rave about how great/easy CROME is so I figured I would try getting into myself. Im just looking for the best way to tune and get around 215 - 225 whp - somewhere in there ...

with an FMU and 5 psi on a y7 block you wont be hitting 215 whp. Youll be around 180whp or so, on a good tune.

Id stay away from DSMs only because they arent meant for your car. Get some RC 310cc.

im looking for 215whp after the y8 head and a real tune on a p28 - but im at a loss - after reading more on the crome forums - I really dont have all the time to spend with tuning like those people did - so what are recommendations? that I just swap a virgin p28 in and then go to a local shop and see what they say I need for them to tune it?

another question - If I get a chipped (for crome) p28 from xenocron with a obd2 to obd1 harness - it will have a crome basemap correct? will that be ok to drive after being installed? not from a performance aspect but from a "I need to drive my car to a tuning shop" ?

you COULD get a basemap from them...but a friend of mine just had 3 ecus done and they were all f**ked up from xenocron

Go with what your tunner uses or is most familiar with. Then ask them where to order it from. If you're good at sautering, you can save $40. Or go to some radio/tv rapair shop. On the dyno, a car can be tunned very accuratly in a small amount of time.

i think thats just what Im gonna do - I wish I had to time to learn how to tune - but I just dont have the time since I work police work ...

As far as the block goes, I'd say DO NOT GO VTEC. Mini-me's + turbo = grenade. Keep your y7, they are TORQUE monsters and youll be all-in-all happier when you dont have oil issues when VTEC pops. Plus itll be a lot more expensive to go the mini route, especially if youre planning on tuning yourself (and your baby blows up)

As far as injectors go, buy a USED set of 450's from a junkyard or w/e. Aim for $50. Then go to an injector rebuild shop, they charge $16 per injector up here in WA. Perfect flow, perfect gaskets/seals etc. There is also a site on the next that sells dsm 450s rebuilt for around $80 a set. If you search A LOT, you'll find it.

As far as tuning goes:

if you know what knocking sounds like, street tune.

if youre good at swapping motors, tune yourself. The good tuners have blown up many many motors before they got their ish down. I believe fook went through 3 before he really got his s**t down.

if you want it done right the first time, and avoid risk/reward, pay for someone else to tune.

thanks for the reply - IM going to keep the d16y7 swapp over to a d16y8 intake mani then pickup a non VTEC ECU chipped for hondata (thats what the local tuner uses) take it to him and let him do some dyno pulls/tuning - hopefully I can get around 200 - 210whp w/stock internals ... or am I asking for too much?

edit - i will be picking up some 310 injectors as well - and 2 step colder plugs from what I have read correct?

Safely see 190 whp / 165 wtq at 8-10 psi depending on which turbo you run... 200-230 whp on a good tune will be very reliable.

Get atleast 450cc injectors... 310 caps your power pretty low. Setting a solid end result power goal will let you size up a bunch of components accordingly: piping / ic size / wastegate / MANIFOLD... personally I'd recommend a nice tubular manifold with a t3 super 60 turbo @ 10 pounds -- put you up into the 260 whp range with room to grow.

Vitara setups are fun and cheap... you can build a spare D block for around $500 if you use some tuner toy rods. And in no time, you'll be a tranny & axle swappin mofo lol.

alright this is whats going on right now - im gonna run the 14b with the HF manifold and blox FMU till I can find a tuner - since the local guy can only tune on the emanage ... btw is that worth it? or no? just go with a chipped ecu? after that get it tuned turn up the boost.

Im going to use this setup as a learning experience so I can see whats involved and everything then Ill see where it takes me - this will be my first boosted car so Im sure ill get addicted just like everyone else.

My buddy sold me a ZC motor for 300 bucks ... no tranny - but everything else - so Im gonna build that with vitara etc ... and see where it goes from there - thanks again for all the help
