I need your guys's help. I just tried to install a skunk2 short shifter in my car. I have a 98 civic ex. The only thing is that I switched out the motor with a b16a and now the shifter doesn't fit. Do I need to order one for a 1999 to 2000 civic or what. I'm stuck.

Are the shift linkages any different from B and D series?

I don't think the shift linkages are any different. It is my first time trying to install. The problem that i was having was when the shifter was put in it was hanging to low and resting on the piping to my muffler and wouldn't move. I was told by the company i bought it from that it should fit perfectly. Any suggestions.

is it hitting the piping or the heat shield?

it is hitting the piping. the heat shield isn't on there anymore. but i think i need to see if i can have a shop rig it or see what the heck the problem is. but if you have any ideas let me know. my mechanic did tell me that the shifter is to short so that is why it is hitting the piping. But i don't know what he meant by that. so i don't know im stuck

take out the shifter and reinstall it, there shouldnt be any problems like that,
was the factory shiter working good, if just unstall it and take it all apart clean everything and put it back together slowley and it should fix your problem

You gotta read my thread . I had exactly the same problem.

The thing is hitting, not because "it's too short" (BS answer) but because the distance from the ball joint of the shifter to the linkage hinge is too long (compared to stock). This pushes the shift linkage down (doesn't affect shifting the tranny) but... it pushing it down low enough to hit the exhaust pipe.

In fact, it's not actually the hinge that hits the pipe... it's actually a stupid counter weight that welded to the stock shift linkage.

I think the only solution to this is to weld cut the counter weight off, and then weld it back on in a higher position.

Or you can lower your exhaust pipe (and give up ground clearance).

Either way, it's a pain in the ass unless you have full access to a nicely setup garage.
