i know you can buy black anodized intercoolers, but i wanted to anodize my own. is there any special way to have this done? i know to anodize black it basically burns the aluminum and i worry that it will burn through the fins since other parts are thicker. any experience or opinions/suggestions with this will be great

i put a thin coat of that high temp flat black spray. i can still see through the fins fine and you cant see my ic at all.

if you look hard enough you can see my ic piping sort of stick out on the passenger side
edit: actually you cant see it at all but if you compare my driver side to my passenger side fogs you'll notice it.

it might, but i haven't noticed a difference. plus a company will say that anodizing is better than spraying your IC simply to increase sales.
anodizing doesnt add any layers onto the metal such as paint. it uses chemicals to change the color metal where as paint makes a layer ontop of the metal which can act as an insulator and keep the heat in, unless its designed to let the heat disperse

but then you also have to realize that i only did the front not the back so maybe the fins towards front arent getting proper airflow because of the paint but the fins in the back sure are.
