Interior door handle

Hi all!

My interior door handle broke; I can get in, but can only get out (or lock the door for that matter) if I hold all the plastic together tightly. This just happened tonight and I know it will get old fast and probably won't keep working very soon.

With your help last August, I made my first ever trip to the wrecker. Thank you! I replaced door sashes and clips and cruise control buttons. I was very pleased.

The handle was already cracked back then and all the '95 civic sedans like mine no longer had door handles at the wrecker so I doubt I'll find the part there. I'm prepared to get it from another source.

Could you please weigh in on how difficult it would be to replace the handle? I am NOT someone who works on a car I just like my old car, it's still running, and I'd like to fix the problem myself if possible rather than pay the dealer WAY too much to do so. However, I only have basic tools. I just need to know how hard this is before I start.

I'm not mechanically inclined but I have little girly fingers and am good with finicky delicate things.

Thanks for your advice.

Not to hard to do really, but whats your definition of "basic tools"?

Just the handle? 95 sedan? Should be able to change it with just a screwdriver. Maybe some pliers as well to pop the rod off the handle its self.

I haven't had my door panels off in quite a while but if I remember right, you just take out one screw and slide the handle forward. Then you pop the rod off of it. Might even be able to do it without taking the whole panel off.

Is this the drivers door handle? There will be one screw through the piece itself, and hooks that hold it to the door frame. If you have power locks there will be a clip attached also. The rod is fairly easy to remove, just be careful not to break the clip. You really dont need to remove the door panel, it just takes a little finesse moving it around. This should help:

Thanks! This is helpful information. I'm going to look for the part and give it a try!

basic tools: that means pliers and a screw driver for me but I use things like a kitchen knife and a pair of tweezers if necessary :-)

Yes, driver's side with power locks. I was hoping I didn't have to take off the whole door panel.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I did it!

It took three weeks before I got the part. The part arrived today. I removed the old handle and installed the new one in under 5 minutes. Thanks again for the advice. Happy driver here now!
