new owner of a 92 honda civic dx, has 235k on it but the body is clean, its just a winter beater but i cant figure out whats wrong with it. it just hesitates sometimes always when i get in it and its cold and when it starts warming up it will do it. seems to do it around 2-3500 rpms when i press the pedal more it back fires and takes off like it should. im thinking its the tps but thats $50ish and i want to make sure thats whats wrong. has anyone have this sort of problem with any luck. im more of a ford guy new to hondas, not cars though.

Have ever done a full ignition system tune up?

Is the ignition timing adjusted to spec?

Any CEL codes thrown?

Had a similar issue once the car was warm. Pull codes if any and test everything on the car.

Grab a multi-meter and test the TPS, they rarely go bad... and if that checks out, bench test the coil ( in the distributer) once the car was warm ( careful they get hot)

Mine ended up being the coil having a heat related disconnect internally.
