hey there i just recently purchased a 97 civic si from what i can tell the engine is not a vtec i did do a vin search and it is in fact an si that was built in the us i was under the impression that all si's had a vtec or maybe i do and just dont know it. it is a 1.6 sohc but it just has a plain silver valve cover that doesnt say vtec on it

ex in canada is si, which has a d16y8, check your block and see what it says. someone may have pulled the motor and put a s***ty y7 in it or somthing.

a USDM SI would be the Canadian SiR equivalent.

Your location says Canada so it probably is a Si. D16y8s have vtec but it does not say it on the valve cover.
If you can not identify the block, here is a pic with a vtec solenoid:

that definatly does look like my motor thanks alot it does seem like a peppy little car i just wasnt sure like it has no vtec markings anywhere but it does say si by the trunk and in the vin code

ya a y8 just says honda on the valve cover, just check for the vtec solenoid one the left side of the valve cover,

if you actually want to see if its vtec just look for that. With hondas its always easier to just check since people do so much swapping with them.

But the question is is did they make a si in canada in 97 when we didnt get them til 99?

Canadian Si's are equivalent to USDM EX and we do have 96-00 EX so I think they have 96-00 Si. I could be wrong, that was a good question though.
