Is this worth trading for?

I have a 97 civic coupe with about 450k miles on it and was owned by 2 older guys before me, and my grandpa knew the original owner, just spent 1500 bucks to change the head and headgasket and was wondering if it worth it to trade it for an 88 ef hatch, the heater core needs to be replaced and needs paint

Hell no. Why would you want to go backwards? That 88 looks like a pile and think about why he would be so willing to get out of it.

keep your car. if the only "cool factor" is that it's lowered.. just buy some lowering springs.

my guess is that thing was a former ricer, is on cut springs, never gets it's routine maint.

You would be better off selling your car then buying the hatch and having money still to fix it or modify it

Haha ok guys, just wondering since I don't know much about the car, have always wanted to go old school, but have yet to find one, I got my 97 for almost next to nothing just hope I can get some sort of money for it, lol since everything still works just needs a new headliner

This.

You also spent $1500 for a new head and head gasket. That is the cost of your 6th gen and double the cost of that POS EF. If you're dropping that kind of money on a 6th gen with minimal engine problems, imagine what you'll spend on that POS to have someone fix it for you like you did the 6th gen.

Keep the coupe for sure.

If you want to go old school, save up and buy one as a second vehicle.
Had a 91 DX and they're not bad, but traded for a 96 DX. I definitely wouldn't go backwards

I'm just saying since I like they are light as s**t, plus all the motor options you have

Yeah they're light but parts are becoming harder and harder to find.
The coupe has a bigger bay and will accept just about any Honda motor out there without having to gut the hood unlike the 88 ;)

I think even the V8 EJ Civic was able to conceal it without cutting a hole

I'm wanting to run a d15b but hate to try and get it to pass smog in my 97 lol

The thing about cars that look like that ef is that if they kept up on the outside they were generally not kept upon the inside, I spy missing side molding, < 30 dollars on ebay, if they didn't fix that when do you țhink they replaced the fuel pump or changed the transmission fluid. Just speculation and generalization of course but if comes from my experience with buying hondas.

I went backwards only because I hate dealing with body work issues. I went from a 97 hatch to a 95 coupe just because the hatch needed body work that I don't like doing (both are stock). So to me it was worth it would I have taken s perfect Ef......no even with how much I hate body work lol the hatch I picked up as a project and the more I tore into it the more problems I found with the body....mistake on my part

I would do it, if it was a second car and I got that 6th gen for nothing.

Paint= easy
Heater core= for what?

If the interior is in good condition that's a plus, those parts are getting harder to come by.

But I'm also an old skool Honda type of guy.
